Travel to a world, or maybe a different planet, full of magic, from the comfort of your own home during this online course, delivered via Zoom.
All stories have to take place somewhere; but no one said that place had to be real.
On this course, you will create, explore, and develop your own original world, and get helpful tips to avoid getting lost in the world building process.
It’s aimed at anyone who is looking to design and explore a new world for your creative writing, and is also ideal for anyone that is interested in refining an existing idea for an imagined world, as well as for anyone who is looking for inspiration.
Worldbuilding is a critical component of the fantasy and sci-fi genres; this course will help you see everyday places in a new light and gain
There’ll be writing tasks and group discussions, with feedback from both the tutor and your peers.
The first four weeks of sessions will focus on developing your individual world; whilst the last four sessions will shift to designing the story held within those worlds.
During the course you will:
- complete writing tasks from prompts
- dive deeper into your world and consider it from different angles
- take part in dynamic group discussions about effective fantasy and sci-fi writing
- gain feedback on your writing style.
What will I gain?
By the end of the course, you will have built confidence in your writing skills and will have gained a firm understanding of your specific fictional world.
You’ll leave with the tools needed to create and develop new worlds for your writing, ideas for short stories set in your world, as well as the potential beginnings of a first draft for a novel, and the understanding of how to progress your story further.
You’ll also have a supportive network of fellow writers to potentially work with and have access to a variety of online resources.
