The course offers hands on access to hives and bees and is intended for novice beekeepers or non-beekeepers who are considering taking up the hobby.
It is particularly relevant to new beekeepers who may have taken a theory course during Covid but have been unable to gain much practical training during the pandemic.
There will be three visits to the apiary during the day interspersed with a little theory to give the background of what we are looking at.
Jonathan recently retired as a Season Bee Inspector with the National Bee Unit and has 20 years experience beekeeping.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
Loan of a beesuit - if you don't have your own.
Tea/Coffee mid morning and afternoon.
Light lunch.
6 hours (10:00am to 4:00pm)

Just back from the 2 of us enjoying this fascinating course. All questions answered at a pace to suit us, plus loads of interesting stuff we never knew about bees, and visits to the beautiful gardens to handle the hives, remove and examine the combs, and discover how perfectly safe one feels in a bee suit ! And the National Trust could learn something about serving lunches and tea from Chris ! An excellent day's value for money. Thank you both - highly recommended.

We are delighted that you enjoyed the day. This course was a birthday present for my wife, Helen, when she returned after the course she told me that Jonathan was an excellent host and the day was very well organised and the gave a great insight into beekeeping. She had a great day. Thank you Jonathan.

I'm delighted Helen enjoyed her birthday present. We spent a brilliant day on this bee keeping course. Incredibly informative with lots of hands on experience pitched at just the right level. Took you through the lifecycle of bees and how to manage them and your hive from start to finish. All equipment and a delicious lunch provided. Would thoroughly recommend for anyone considering taking up keeping bees.

Thank you for your review. We are very pleased you found the course useful.Really enjoyed the day and meeting local beekeepers. I found the instruction and ability to ask questions at any time really helpful as well as just seeing what a proper set-up looks like. The mix of hands-on & theory was well balanced. I took photos of slides / posters I found useful - in particular, the lifecycle of the different bees and what kind of workload to expect when (with no guarantees of course!). Lovely lunch & beautiful garden surrounds. Thanks
