« More about this course organiser
I purchased this chef's knife making weekend course as a gift for my brother, and decided to come along too - which turned out to be a great decision.
Steve is an excellent teacher with a wealth of knowledge, and a highly skilled craftsman. Spending a couple of days in his company, and using the often custom made equipment in his workshop we were able to produce a couple of completely unique knives that look great as well as being practical, and I am sure will serve us well for many years to come.
Thanks Steve!
Response from White Tiger Knives:
Hi NickThe two day knife making course was excellent.
Steve covered all of the stages in forging and manufacturing a hand made bespoke knife.
Steve was personable, knowledgable and informative and I would recommend him to anyone who is looking to either start or to advance their skills at knife making.
Response from White Tiger Knives:
Hi PaulExcellent day's knife making!
Steve was a perfect host and instructor. Very patient with my errors (like constantly missing the knife when hammering it on the anvil, or grinding it unevenly), which he then corrected for me! Happy to explain what we were doing and why. Took us through the process to time, and helped us produce wonderful looking knives at the end of it. Can't recommend this course enough, a really good day.
Response from White Tiger Knives:
Hi MalcWhere to start really; the course was absolutely fantastic. From start to finish Steve was patient with my learning, enthusiastic about what I will be able to achieve and incredibly giving with his time and expertise.
I have always enjoyed working with my hands and this was next level. The whole process from start to finish was great and seeing something both functional and aesthetically appealing come out at the end is a little mind blowing, as Steve says - “you wont leave here with something that just looks like a knife, it will be a knife”.
Steve has really got something special going and I would throughly encourage anyone with an interest in blade smithing to book this course immediately, I can’t imagine you’d ever regret it.
I will most certainly be back for another go.

Response from White Tiger Knives:
Hi EricThis was an absolutely fantastic day for me.
I never got to do much of the tough handcrafted sort of things at school and generally am rather a techy person with a techy job.
I try to experience new things and was gifted this experience by my girlfriend and her famiy.
Steve was great at taking you through the stages, guiding you and explaining as you went from a fresh cut piece of steel to something that looks great, cuts great and you can be proud to know you made it!
Lots of knowledge, very welcoming, I could recommend this to anyone and i'm also thinking of booking the chef knife course with my girlfriend as I think she would love it too.
Response from White Tiger Knives:
Hi TheoAttended the 2 day chef's knife course, received as a gift, and had a thoroughly enjoyable time, would highly recommend. I have since been proudly sharing pictures with friends and family of my knife (emphasis on MY - there will be no knife exactly like mine and I hope to use it for years to come).
I started the course with a good idea about what I wanted to achieve - a chef's knife with a patterned/black forged finish and am so, so pleased with how it turned out. I wasn't sure what wood would be available for the handle, but was surprised by the huge choice. I opted for a beautiful piece of Cocobolo (central American hardwood), shaped and sanded until it was just right.
Steve is highly skilled, knowledgeable and incredibly passionate about knife making, guiding us through the hands-on process over the 2 days. Thanks again Steve!
Cheers,
Ben

Response from White Tiger Knives:
Hi MarkI had the absolutely pleasure of spending the day with Steve and making a knife under his expert tutoring.
Steve has an encyclopaedic knowledge of bladesmithing and is a thoroughly good chap to boot. The day was both exhilarating and fun but also a rich grounding in the basics of forging a knife.
I would heartily and without reservation recommend this course to anyone!
Response from White Tiger Knives:
Hi ChrisThis was my second course with Steve, and he was right in what he said replying to a previous review... it's addictive.
This time, Steve introduced me to a different method of blade-smithing and we designed and made a fabulous tanto style knife, including a hamon, which Steve hadn't tried before on a 1 day course.
Although trying to get it all fitted into one day was extremely tight as this wasn't a typical one day project, Steve didn't let any of the pressure show and took the time to explain the techniques we were using and with his guidance, we ended up with a scarily sharp, beautiful unique design, with a gorgeous willow and cord wrapped handle that suited the style perfectly.
By the end of the day, Steve and I were already plotting the next project for my next visit !
Response from White Tiger Knives:
Hi Chris2 day chef's knife course.
Was given the option of three shapes : Chef's knife, Santoku (my choice) or Nakiri.
Started from pre-cut blanks which made the actual forging quicker than expected (hour or so).
Although Stephen did a few parts (quenching, handle fitting, final sharpening) all the creative choices were mine. Those included choosing shape, patterning, polished or not, wood for handle and shape of handle. I get he did the mentioned parts to give me the best result, although I would have liked to do the quench.
1st Day - forging knife shape, grinding, quenching
2nd Day - making the handle, sharpening
Well enjoyed 2 days, very proud of my knife.
(Also given a nice carrying pouch to take it home)
Response from White Tiger Knives:
Hi DafyddIncredibly fun, insightful and detailed presentation. Steve is a career metal worker with true passion for the craft of bladesmithing. Be fussy, ask questions, or just chill and enjoy the ride. Either way, you'll end up with the knife of your dreams. Day 1 metal. Day 2 wood. In between go out for a beer, food and stay local, plenty of choice.
Rugged beauty. Cheers mate. Tom & Graeme
Response from White Tiger Knives:

Hi JoshI was put in touch with Steve as I needed assistance with a project I was undertaking. He was so helpful and spent so much time helping me I decided to take one of his courses . The experience was excellent...his knowledge of knife-making and the processes involved are encyclopaedic, moreover, the way in which he explains things and if necessary demonstrates them made the day a pleasure. I ended it with a knife I couldn't be more proud of.
Thanks Steve!!
