Maker's bio

I’m Kirsty, founder of Upcycle Arcade. I have taken an idea, a hobby, a longstanding desire to create something from nothing and Upcycle Arcade is the result. Upcycling saves our heritage and many heirlooms from landfill plus allows all manner of creativity to run riot! It is mentally rewarding, sufficiently fruitful and highly addictive: all my spare time is spent on Upcycle Arcade in some way. Thankfully I am well supported by my husband and three teenage children.

Karen witts reviewed: Upcycling furniture & sustainability workshops

" Had a very good day up-cycling shelves with my granddaughter. Learnt some interesting tips. Kirsty was very helpful and explained different techniques, with colours, stencils etc. Very friendly. - Karen. I had a fun day and learnt so many new things. Everyone was kind and welcoming. I wasn't expected to bring anything and was provided with good quality resources. -Tabitha. "

Upcycle Arcade responded:

" Thank you so much, both of you, for such wonderful reviews! They are as lovely to read as it was to spend the day with you. I was absolutely blown away with what you created from the rather plain shelves. The robins were a delight and the tiny splashes of gold really made it special. Good luck with future upcycling and enjoy being creative! Kirsty"

Lesley Michaels reviewed: Upcycling furniture & sustainability workshops

"This is my second up cycling workshop with Kirsty which was truly inspirational. The day as always was full of good ideas with lots of great advice from Kirsty. I invited my daughter along for the day as an early birthday present and a fab way to spend some quality time together. I can’t wait for the next one. Oh and the home made cake is worth all those extra calories. ?"

Upcycle Arcade responded:

" Lesley, you are such a pleasure to host, you really are! You certainly bring so much joy and sparkle to the workshops. Plus I get to bake...and eat cake with you, guilt free (almost) as it's part of my job! See you soon x"

Sue reviewed: Upcycling furniture & sustainability workshops

"Thank you for a really enjoyable day. I learned lots of skills I can use on other projects as well as finishing my Upcycling project for the day. Kirsty was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic..and I highly recommend the course. "

Upcycle Arcade responded:

" Thank you so much for this review, Sue. It's so lovely to know that you will continue upcycling and of course feel free to get in touch with any queries. It was fun and your Mary Quant-esq cabinet was such a triumph in metamorphosis! I loved it! Thank you again for making the day magical."

Niki Wiggins reviewed: Upcycling furniture & sustainability workshops

"Kirsty had upcycled a piece of furniture for me, and I expressed an interest in knowing more. Attending one of her upcycling workshops was the perfect boost of confidence I needed to have a go by myself. Absolutely everything that was needed was ready to go when we turned up on the day. Kirsty had taken care of everything (including refreshments and a very lovely homemade cake with fresh raspberry jam)! Following a very informative introduction (including a video specifically for Young Upcyclers from Annie Sloane herself), Kirsty was on hand to develop our design ideas and provide some great advice if required. Nothing seemed too much trouble and the time flew by, whilst just actually being the right amount of time to finish our designs. I left feeling full of confidence to do something with some tired pieces of furniture in my own home, which are far too good to go to the tip, but just need a new lease of life. Thank you Kirsty, for a very therapeutic and enjoyable day. I would highly recommend (even if, like me, you don’t have a Young Upcycler to take along)."

Upcycle Arcade responded:

" I am blown away by your lovely review! Your words really do make it all worth while (although I was enjoying hosting the workshops anyway!!) Seriously, if you had a great day and are inspired to go forth and paint then I have done my job well. It was a treat and a pleasure to have your company at the workshop. Kirsty"
