Carol grant reviewed: Crochet for beginners

"I went on this course as I wanted a beginners class in order to help me start my crochet experience. Unfortunately I am still unable to even do the simplest of crochet techniques - although the afternoon was lovely I did not learn anything and still unable to even hold the crochet hook in the correct way - this may be down to me but I did have some expectations which is why only 2 stars- better if you have some knowledge and want to progress but not for a complete novice."

Tresillian House responded:

"Dear Carol, so sorry to hear that you did not make the progress you had hoped. I have perhaps a solution and will contact you directly. Best wishes, Alison at Tresillian House"

"An excellent course in a lovely setting. With the expert guidance of the tutor I came away with a very handsome obelisk. A friendly group of people and a great day out."

Tresillian House responded:

"It was wonderful to meet you and the group and I agree - it was a great day. I am amazed at how much we achieved in a one day workshop, ably guided by Kate. We will do this course again!!!"

"I so enjoyed my days course. We were 4 in the class in a warm garden room in Alison's garden. All equipment is provided with hot drinks and an excellent warm lunch. I was told I was being ambitious for a novice, with my desire to make a pig-who tried to leave as Dumbo until Kate sorted his ears- he is of course now perfect!! I started as a novice and loved the skill and tuition that Kate gave us -moulding the weaving into muscles to get a great look. I drove a long way for a course I really wanted to do- Nil regrets and a stunning pig! Thank you Kate for great teaching and such a good day. Thank you Alison for a smashing stay the night before - made it very relaxing 10/10 -thoroughly recommend this course."

"I have wanted to try willow weaving for some time. Having been treated to a voucher by my family, I chose Kate’s workshop and was very glad I did. Kate and her partner provided a warm welcome to their home and workshop. Kate was very supportive and patient with a real novice, offering suggestions and practical feedback as my sculpture took shape. A wonderful homemade lunch gave me a chance to explore the garden and see a small sample of the amazing and different sculptures that Kate has done. Time flew and after a wonderful and rewarding day, I left with a pheasant sculpture that received many compliments from my family. I have recommended this course to friends and family and look forward to going again next year to make a new sculpture!"

"What a fantastic day we had! I would never have believed I could make a heron out of willow, but with Kate's expert tuition I managed it. She is an extremely talented lady, and so helpful and patient, I thoroughly recommend her course. My daughter, Laura, made a lovely hare, and now we are planning to go back and make more animals. Alison was an excellent host. We were well suppled with refreshments throughout the day, and the lunch was delicious. There was plenty of parking available on site, and afterwards we had a stroll around Alison's gorgeous garden."

Tresillian House responded:

"Dear Ruth Thank you very much for your kind review and comments. I am delighted you had such a really good day. The group were good and despite all being beginners, grasped the principles of the weaving quickly - all ending up with brilliant sculptures. We look forward to seeing you again in the future. Best wishes, Alison at Tresillian House"

"The weaving course with kate was a lovely day and I left with a huge heron that is my pride and joy. The day was gentle, group was small enough to ensure time and attention from kate. Venue was set in the grounds of trissellian house beautiful garden and plenty of pre course information and directions. Very much recommend this for a beginner like me or more experienced weavers"

Tresillian House responded:

"Dear Julie delighted to hear the course was a successful day and sorry that I missed you all. Hope the heron is now gracing your garden/pond - it will be a point of interest!! best wishes, Alison at Tresillian House"

"Had a fabulous day. With Kate (tutor) willow craft. Great location and limited to 6 which gives everyone time for Kate to have 1-1 sessions throughout the day. Lovely lunch provided by Alison. Totally recommended"

"A wonderful fun course - 4 friends spending a weekend together. Although 10 on the course we went on made it harder for Kate to get around, she made it and we all have amazing willow animals to add to our gardens or house! The hospitality of coffee, lunch and tea was excellent and we were very well looked after. Our stay in the house was very comfortable and extremely clean. Delightful host who provided an excellent breakfast. Very well worth the journey. Thank you."

Tresillian House responded:

"Dear Dee I am delighted that you enjoyed yourselves and yes, have learnt the lesson that 8 should be maximum and we need to try and organise the on line bookings better. All your animals looked wonderful and Kate is a brilliant course leader. Delighted you all had a safe journey back and thank you for taking the time to write the review. best wishes, Alison at Tresillian House"

Jill Bowler reviewed: Willow Obelisk Sculpture

"I would have rated this course as good but two things let it down. The group was too large (10) and it was difficult for Kate to get round everyone. The light lunch provided was of extremely poor quality."

Tresillian House responded:

"Dear Jill Thank you for taking the time to review the course. As I explained the normal number for a course is 8 but on this occasion I had taken a telephone booking direct and then received an online booking the same afternoon pre-paid and before I had time to register the course as full. The on-line payment system is new this autumn and perhaps I should review that again - although people tend to prefer to pay on line. I apologise that you felt the lunch was poor and not to your taste. Next time I will cook stew and dumplings and not experiment. Thank you for coming and I hope your sculpture has survived this week's rain!"

"So now I have a pheasant, made with the direction and help of Kate, and it's sitting in the shade of my red maple. A busy, full-on day, very well catered in the lovely setting of the garden at Tressillian House. I was surprised that we pretty much all managed to complete our various creatures. Great fun, and, it has to be said, quite hard work!"

Tresillian House responded:

"Thank you so much Sue for your kind words. I am always amazed by the wonderful creations on Kates' Willow Days and equally as impressed by how much you get done in a day! I am so glad that you enjoyed your day. The courses have proved so popular that we have added an extra date in September that still has spaces if you feel that your pheasant needs a friend! Kindest Regards Alison."
