Maker's bio

The Leaf Press is the studio name of surface pattern designer and papercut artist Suzy Dobson. I create colourful designs which I sell on stationery, wedding invitations and pictures. The Leaf Press was originally a bookbinding studio but has evolved over the years so that papercut style designs are my speciality. I have been teaching adults since 2009 and am very excited to have started offering workshops in my own studio in 2023. Students have described it as a 'bright, calming space' and with a maximum of 4 students you can be sure of a friendly and relaxed learning experience where you can work at your own pace but receive help when you need it. I look forward to welcoming you to a workshop and please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

"Very enjoyable workshop in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Suzy provides all tools and materials with a wide choice of patterns and colours. She makes the book alongside the learners, providing clear instructions and offering individual help as needed. We all completed our notebooks and brought home detailed instructions to make more at home. Suzy also supplies cake, biscuits and hot drinks. Highly recommended."

"This workshop was a great introduction to bookbinding which I have never previously done. I wanted to learn about this as a way to present my embroideries and this workshop was ideal. Suzy took us carefully through each step and I was able to produce a lovely notebook. I’m sure I’ll be back again, I really enjoyed it and I learnt a lot."

"Another enjoyable and relaxing workshop. Suzy is an excellent teacher who gives clear explanations and supports each attendee to go at their own pace. All materials were provided and there was a wide choice of designs and colours. We all made three books on the day and brought home an almost-completed fourth one with everything we need to finish it at home. The handouts are very clear and easy to follow. Highly recommended."
