"I love this friendly group organised by Rachel. I haven't done art before but have progressed to this intermediate class. Claire the tutor is very knowledgeable and develops a syllabus around the students requests with achievable lesson objectives. We use different media looking at different artists and techniques used. I really look forward to my Tuesday morning . Thank you for your inspiration."

"I love Rachel's Improvers art class. The atmosphere is warm and friendly with guidance readily available. We are trying out new techniques and are creating our own unique pieces of work. "I felt a combination of nervous and excited at the start of this beginners art course. The tutor Nicola put as all at ease very quickly. She is very positive and encouraging. Her passion and enthusiasm for her art shine through. I was amazed by how much we all achieved in the the first session. The second session on mark making was great fun and messy! It is a relaxed, peaceful atmosphere and we become totally absorbed in our own efforts. All the materials are provided and each week we have the opportunity to have a go at a different media. It is perfect for beginners. I highly recommend it."

"I am in my third year learning to paint with Rachel’s course and I am delighted that this year Clare has moved the teaching on from the level of previous years. I am now being challenged every week and, whilst I might not have a finished piece at the end of the class, I have always learnt something new, which to me is the point of attending classes in the first place. "I really look forward to coming to the class. This is my 3rd year and I feel I have learnt so much over that time. My confidence has increased and I enjoy being in a group with folks I have got to know and seeing how differently we each interpret the subject. There is a great atmosphere, people are very supportive and encouraging. Claire is an experienced and personable teacher. She structures the sessions carefully and knows a lot about the subject, often linking the sessions to the work of different artists. I like learning and applying a technique, e.g. building up the colours in acrylic for the landscape, using the masking fluid with watercolour. For me the sessions are an opportunity to experiment and to take away ideas for something I can use later. Rachel is there to ensure that everything runs smoothly and is a warm and encouraging presence."

"This is my first time attending this course for improvers and I am delighted to have enrolled and to attend every Tuesday. I haven’t done any art for years, and I feel totally inspired every week. The level is good and the teaching is great. There’s a lovely atmosphere thanks to Rachel who looks after us every week, and to Clare’s measured and studied approach to show us each technique (I attend the afternoon sessions). It is a fun and sociable moment, with a challenging aspect, so it never feels boring. Not only do we use a different technique every week, but we also get to produce lovely pieces of work to take home (which are well received when I show them to friends and family!) I’m delighted to have found this class and look forward to next term. Liv Graham"

"This course isn't living up to its predecessor for me .... Can't quite work out what's not working for me at the moment but it will prevent me from signing up next term. In my 3 previous terms I created a large number of projects which I framed and was very proud of, so far this term I haven't felt inclined to display any of my work. I do appreciate the efforts with the new equipment provided but it isn't hitting the spot for me"

As you have only attended 4 out of the 11 lessons so far this term, perhaps things will improve? Any suggestions are always useful as we can use these to plan our specific tailored curriculum for our own students for next term. I know you do particularly enjoy painting animals. regards Rachel"

"The art class is fantastic. I started as a nervous beginner and have now attended 6 terms. There is a friendly and lively atmosphere but at the same time concentration on the topic of the day. There is excellent teaching from Jo and very efficient organisation from Rachel who has everything ready for us and who provides welcome refreshments. They make a great team. I always go home relaxed and uplifted. I absolutely love coming and recommend it to everyone."
