"I go on courses when other people go on holiday and as it happened 2 booked courses had been cancelled. It was at this stage I discovered Slamseys printing courses and had a rush of blood to the head, booking 4 courses in the Autumn 2017 programme. I started to panic: What if I didn’t the first one and had paid the fees for 3 more? Would the content overlap too much that I wouldn’t learn much and get bored? What is I didn’t like the tutor? It has been a total success! These courses are equal in standard to the mosaic courses run the artist Anne Schwegmann-Fielding, another professional artist, and previously the best I have attended. Ruth Wheaton is a very experience tutor class and gently moves students on so that the all the activities are completed and yet there is flexibility. The equipment and block printing ink are freely available when you need them and there are lots of helpful tips along the way so that you can continue at home. She has a real love and understanding of the print-making process. The description on the website is full and very accurate and if you explore the super website you will see the standard of work which is possible achievable to. Each course covered a different area. To me learning how to build up a design and use the colour wheel to make all the colours needed from red, blue and yellow ink has been really useful. I believe I have a acquired very thorough grounding and with practice at home, and likely achieve very satisfying results. The details list the kind of people who will enjoy the courses. I would say that with Ruth’s very gentle teaching style, providing you consider yourself ‘crafty’ you will get a great deal out of them. You need no more knowledge than having done potato printing and having enjoyed the process. You will meet a whole variety of people. I call myself a mosaic artist, but not having done any printing in a degree module for nearly 20 years because of a depressive illness resulting in complete loss of confidence. Everything associated with Slamsey’s is of the highest quality and matches the branding of the website. The barn is a very large airy space and very conducive to encouraging art activities. There being no more than 6 in a class there is no need for the diffident to feeling overwhelmed. …. and there is plenty of parking! What more can I say? Only I am already planning to join more course in the future. My money was well spent! Cathy T, Chelmsford 20/10/17"

"Booked this class quite last minute as it's just down the road from me. Easy to find, great parking. Coffee and cake provided. It felt like a long day as there was so much to learn, but a nice packed lunch around the farm pond was a nice break halfway through. I'm going to transfer these screen printing skills onto fabric. I will definitely keep an eye out for future classes."

"had been looking forward to this class for ages as it was fully booked last time. Had a great time, perfecting my screen printing technique. I actually really enjoyed using the small thermofax screens, even though I was most looking forward to the main larger screens. Scrummy cakes too."

"A whole day dedicated to screen printing - what a great day! Excellent and friendly teaching and I left with five perfect prints on paper, and had also tried smaller screens in the morning. The barn was very warm and a great space to work!"

"Took part in this course over two days - I chose this course because I wanted an opporuntity to use thermofax screens as well as woodblocks, but I also got the chance to make my own designs. Trying out different inks was great - I now know everything I need to carry on printing at home, which was my plan :)"

"I have been on this course and also the linocut greetings cards one - both of which have been so interesting and fun. Ruth catered for my gluten free diet with a new cake or biscuit each week, which was much appreciated. I think drypoint etching was my favourite, Ruth encouraged us to experiment with inking and printing techniques throughout the session. Yes, I do recommend to others. SophieBx"

"I loved this course! Really enjoyed coming each week, although I did have to travel from East London it was wirth it. Learned so many skills, most of which I can keep using at home or others when I return to Print Club. There was a scrumptious cake each week and plenty of teas and coffees throughout. I left with fabric which I have turned into cushions. I'm hoping to start printing cushions to sell online, this course has given me the confidence to get started and take the leap. Can't recommend enough! Andrea x"

"Intro to printing was a really interesting course. I loved drypoint etching using the press as well as screen printing, lino cut & monoprinting. It's amazing how different each technique was. It was handy to have the final session to revisit the previous topics to develop further. I think this was good value for money as there were cakes and tea and coffee available throughout the session, it was a very small group and the setting on a farm was beautiful. I travelled quite far for this workshop each week, and I definitely think it was worth it. Can't wait to book again, will be trying fabric printing next time!"

"Learned the basics of fabric printing, all of which I can keep doing at home. Met some lovely people, only four of us on the course, which meant there was lots of 1-1 attention. The barn and farm make a lovely setting, course supplies and refreshments were generous."

"I took my wife of 26 years to this - it was a wonderful day that brought us closer together. My printing experience had been limited to the office photocopier to date so this course really opened my eyes to the versatilities of the form. The venue and facilities were excellent and I really enjoyed the cheese sandwiches. Tutor Ruth was very approachable and had a great sense of humour. Would recommend."
