Maker's bio

Hi, I'm David, a sculptor in stone. I've been offering Sculpture-in-a-Day courses to small groups since 2017. I was a full time teacher of art and science for over 30 years. I offer stone carving courses at weekends in late Spring, Summer and early Autumn in a beautiful open-air venue in Oxfordshire. You need no artistic ability and no experience - I promise you that you'll be delighted with what you produce! There are lots of examples of my clients' work on my website if you're looking for inspiration. I'll also do Sculpture-on-a-Day in your garden for your own group - contact me to discuss this. You could use CraftCourses to pay or part-pay for this. I sell my own work online and through exhibitions at various times in the year.

"Brilliantly taught by David! Walked away with a handsome bird/creature, now sitting on wall in my garden. Much admired by friends. Absolutely lived carving away, with expert guidance. Not too much, not too little. Good sized group of likeminded people, all of whom produced a finished piece by the end of the day. "

"I signed up for David's Sculpture in a Day course with zero experience of doing sculpture. I really enjoyed it and was totally absorbed in my creation all day. We started at 0930 and didn’t finish until almost 1800. All four of us doing the course came away with sculptures we were really pleased with and in all cases they closely resembled the ideas we had on arrival. David was a patient teacher and helped each of us to realise our own ideas. I’d definitely recommend it and will probably do it again."
