"I have gone from complete novice to a commited fan of upholstery. This is due to the patience, coaching and enthusiasm given by Sandra in her welcoming and relaxed courses. Sandra is a very knowledgeable instructor who thankfully puts you immediately at ease and builds your confidence and skill set. The courses are very rewarding, but be aware they are very addictive. I have already completed 3 courses in upholstery and had a great day making lampshades with both my Mum and Sister."

"We really loved the days spent with Sandra on our different upholstery projects and highly recommend her workshops. Both beginners, she was extremely patient with each of us and took time to introduce each stage of the process, explaining the tasks and how to use a range of tools and materials on the way. The small group size is perfect for learning and her enthusiasm is infectious. Sandra is a wonderful teacher, helping the learner to grow in confidence in a very supportive environment and she is always positive and encouraging. She made us feel we could tackle further upholstery work on our own and we went away delighted with our finished pieces. Sandra's interpersonal skills are excellent, sharing her experiences and drawing our attention to a range of techniques over the time spent with her. The classes are suitable for the novice as well as the more experienced. There is so much to learn while having great fun. The workshop is practical and rewarding, as well as excellent value for all the personal attention provided by a gifted tutor."

"I don’t usually leave reviews for anything but i just wanted to encourage other people, who may be even a little interested, to try one of Sandra’s courses! I have been to a few of her upholstery classes over the last couple of months and most recently i booked in for one of the lampshade making classes. "I absolutely love Sandra’s courses! She’s so patient and understanding of all levels. I struggled to find anywhere local to have a go at upholstery and by chance stumbled across Sandra’s website, and I’m so glad I did! Very relaxed and the small group of 2 or 3 students is perfect as you never have to wait for help when you’re stuck. Definitely recommend this to anyone! A great release from an otherwise busy life!"

"I found Sandra’s course after being let down at the last minute by someone else. This proved to be the silver lining in my cloud! Sandra is very easy to get on with as she has a very friendly and easy approach to teaching which is great when you are a novice. I jumped in at the deep end with a large armchair and she didn’t flinch - she had me making piping in no time! Nothing is too much trouble - no project a lost cause. Everything is possible and the results are always amazing. I could easily spend all day, every day, padding, cutting, stapling and stitching. Sandra certainly makes it addictive. The tea and cake helps too. If you feel like treating yourself this is definitely the way to do it. I can’t praise her classes enough."

"I can thoroughly recommend Sandra's upholstery and lampshade classes: I was a complete novice at both, but her gentle yet perfectionist manner of teaching, attention to detail, and endless encouragement helped me to achieve not only four dining chairs that I am really proud of, but also several lampshades of varying styles and sizes. The small-sized classes helped to create a real sense of camaraderie and support between us all, and they were also great fun (not forgetting the coffee and cake)! Sandra will be sorely missed in the northern Highlands: I wish her well and would strongly recommend her classes to anyone wishing to re-vamp their furniture or lamps."

"The feeling of great satisfaction (and occasionally relief!) when you finish a project under Sandra's expert supervision, is truly worth the wait. She feels your pain when you tackle a new an challenging technique and shares your delight in your personal achievement. It is also interesting to see the projects of the others in the group taking shape. There is a lot to be learned by observing too. A great experience in a professional and very friendly environment."

"Sandra is absolutely superb teacher with an infinitive patience. Fantastic, relaxed atmosphere. Very small groups enable Sandra to help each student out whenever they need it. I have completed a few projects with her and kept coming back because it always has been great fun. In the same time I have learnt so much thanks to her. I don't think it would be possible in a different environment. Oh, and there's always some cake too! I would recommend Sandra's classes to anyone."

"What do you get from Sandra classes? Well not just excellent tuition from a very patient and talented teacher but someone who really cares about her students and who goes the extra mile to help them achieve their personal goals. One or two in my class have probably tackled projects well above their capabilities but Sandra took it all in her profession stride and very encouragingly worked with us to achieve a successful outcome with our projects. I am sure when she saw some of the chairs that Julie and I bought through the door they must have made her heart sink but she always greeted us with a huge smile! I personally enjoyed every minute and have lots of lovely upholstery around my house and another true friend in my life. All the best in the future Jenny taylor"

"Fantastic environment to learn a lovely craft. Being a complete beginner I wasn't sure what to expect but Sandra guided me through explaining her thought process and plenty discussion. Lots of attention in such a small, intimate group. Would recommend the classes to anyone of any level. Although it took me a few sessions to finish my piece I tried not to think of the price as being for the item but for the knowledge and skills I had acquired, very reasonable all in all! Will be transferring the skills into future project and attending more classes for different techniques"

Angie Morris reviewed: Upholstery classes at Sandra Fryer's Workshops

"Sandra's classes are superb - first class teaching in small groups, so you receive lots of attention. From being a complete novice in September, under Sandra's tuition and with her encouragement, I have learnt several techniques and completed projects in a friendly and informal atmosphere. Sandra is expert in all types of upholstery and so enthusiastic. Going along to her classes, sharing ideas and learning a new skill has been hugely enjoyable. Highly recommended!"
