"I absolutely LOVED the pinboard workshop with Lucy at the lovely Paddock Studio. She is clearly a very knowledgable and skilled tutor and as a beginner I felt in safe hands! The tools were excellent quality and even though the pinboards we made were relatively simple flat forms, it was really interesting to learn upholstery techniques and tips that could be applied to other projects. We had a beautiful selection of velvets and colours to choose from and I particularly liked that the materials were sustainable/recycled and that even the smallest offcuts were destined to be repurposed. I'm delighted with the pinboard I made and can't wait to put it up in my studio! Thanks Lucy for a wonderful afternoon x"

"Had the most enjoyable day on Saturday with Lucy in Lewes. Very good teacher, had loads of patience with us and a lovely friendly manner. Great space, good simple lunch and plenty of good humour. I am pleased as punch with my footstool. Lucy even let me change my fabric colour choice to marmalade which I am so pleased with. I would recommend this course, you won't be disappointed!"

"I had hankered after one of Lucy's footstools for a while and never thought I could really make one! But I took the plunge and signed up for the course with a friend and we and the other students in the class, all ended up making beautiful, practical, sustainable footstools which we are very proud of!! Lucy is an extremely kind, patient and knowledgeable teacher. She also is very funny and knows how to tell a cracking yarn whilst still pushing us to keep on time! Lucy shared many upholsterer's secrets and made us feel like we really knew what we were doing, even if at times it seemed like we would never get there! The studio space in Lewes is terrific with amazing light and it has such a great back-story (you'll have to do the course to find out!) We also had a delicious lunch and a really, out-of-this world amazing brownie when we were all flagging mid-afternoon. It was lovely to spend the day using my hands, and the little-used creative bit of my brain. And it was great to meet and chat with some really interesting and delightful women, with Lucy guiding, teaching, encouraging and helping when it was a bit too tricky! This is a great course taught by an absolutely fabulous teacher AND you get to take home a totally gorgeous footstool which I guarantee you will love! Thanks for everything Lucy xx"

"I'd wanted to do this course for ages, so after finally doing it recently I was delighted it was all I'd hoped it would be and more. My job (life!) is very screen based, so I wanted to do something which was opposite to this, to do be practical and use my hands (not just my fingertips typing!!) and produce an item I would love and use. What I don't think I'd expected was the utter absorption of it - as a complete novice, I had to focus hard and that was so mindful. I felt I could have tacked for hours! Lucy was a superb teacher, explaining the steps and rational for each really clearly. When I got a wobble at the end finishing the felt wool layer, she was very patient and explained techniques in different ways, with suggestions to try, until it "clicked". Then bravo, a beautiful stool! When I got home my boys asked where I'd bought it, and were surprised when I said I'd made it which was gratifying! Highly commend this course - a most satisfying day. "

"I was really nervous about the footstool workshop and genuinely worried I would not be able to make one very well. However under the expert guidance of Lucy, with her wealth of knowledge and experience, and kind patience (always with humour!), I actually did it! It was such an enjoyable experience to push myself out of my 'desk based' comfort zone, to learn new skills and realise that we are all capable under the right tuition. We worked hard but the reward - coming home at the end of the day with a beautiful footstool - was so worth it! The studio is beautiful and lunch delicious too. "Lucy is extremely talented and a fantastic teacher . I had the most wonderful day on the footstool upholstery workshop and and chuffed to bits with my very own beautiful footstool . The whole process of booking and choosing from a selection of coloured wool ( I chose ‘ Meadow ‘ ) was straightforward and Lucy was quick to respond to any questions . There were six of us in the group and Lucy was incredibly attentive but also let us get in with the measuring , cutting , stapling , glueing and hammering . It was really thrilling to have made such a beautiful thing in only a few hours - oh and the lunch from Caccia & Tails was absolutely delicious . Thank you and I may return to make another !! "

"An absolutely perfect day, from the teacher and the delicious local food to the end result - the foot stool itself which I am SO PROUD of! We didn’t just learn how to make a footstool, we learnt so much about upholstery and furniture in general. I loved that everything was so carefully sourced - beautiful birch ply, coconut and rubber matting, rich coloured recycled wools and genuinely lovely, warm, patient and humourous teaching. "I did the workshop in a group of complete novices and with Lucy's step-by-step guidance, many professional upholsterer's tips and calm reassurance, all of us produced our very own, super-stylish footstools. Magic. As someone who has a desk-based, screen-staring job all week, I really enjoyed using my brain in a completely different way, working with my hands and learning to use the different tools. And spending the day in a lovely studio space. It's also very satisfying to come home with and be proud of a piece of furniture you have made yourself. Lucy is a fantastic and kind teacher and has a wealth of knowledge on all things upholstery and furniture. I came with friends but can imagine enjoying the workshop just as much with people I hadn't met before - it was a thoroughly enjoyable day. And the footstool is well-used!"
