Candie G reviewed: Fused glass workshops for all

"Had a wonderful time at this workshop with Karen. As a beginner I found she explained everything in simple terms and we were very soon ‘hands on’ making our own items. I was very impressed with the materials and equipment available for our use, so much different glass to choose from, all colours of frits and stringers and paints, and I learned how to use the grinder. I was delighted with the pieces I made - we made two smaller pieces in the morning and then we were free to make a larger piece in the afternoon of our choice - I can’t wait to see them finished after firing. I would happily do this workshop every weekend if I could, and have no hesitation in recommending Karen - excellent teacher and very friendly and hospitable. "

"I cannot recommend this craft day enough. As a complete novice I was not sure what to expect. Now looking to return again and again. Excellent host, location and lunch! Good pace and easy sense of achievement with 3 pieces to take home. Absolutely loved it. Thank you Karen!!!"

Margaret Bullock reviewed: Fused glass workshops for all

"The one-day Fused Glass Workshop run by Karen Redmayne proved to be a hugely enjoyable introduction to this craft. I had never done any glass fusing before and so I was an absolute beginner. Karen was highly organized and informative about the arrangements for the day. In no time at all after Karen's expert demonstration and explanations, I was making my first pieces. In this first foray, under Karen's guidance, and with full access to the equipment and materials on offer, I made two coasters and a shallow bowl! A brilliant day and productive day. I can't wait to see my creations once they are fired! Karen makes her workshops relaxed and fun. She has a real talent for imparting her skills and knowledge to the uninitiated. Great value for money. I will be booking again with Karen and I will be spreading the news. Margaret Bullock"

Sian reviewed: Glass bead making / lampwork

"My husband and I recently did this workshop and loved it. Karen was very knowledgeable and made us feel very welcome throughout. We've previously done glass blowing so were excited to work with glass again and learn how it was different with lampwork - Karen was very patient answering our questions and we quickly begin making beads. We made several beads each over the five hours, using different glasses and learning techniques to add spots, stripes, etc. Karen was a great teacher, guiding us while encouraging us to experiment with different designs/colours and glass. Karen also kindly provided us with lunch, taking our preferences into consideration. We really enjoyed it and will definitely be going to another of Karen's classes in the future."

Wendy B reviewed: Fused glass - fossil vitra

"This was a great course with an excellent tutor in Karen. I learnt a lot in a relaxed and friendly environment with Karen encouraging me to try various techniques. I was shown and given the opportunity to make trial pieces in the morning with the afternoon making 2 larger pieces. I would highly recommend this course to anyone wanting to try the Fossil Vitra process"

Helen Tomes reviewed: Stained glass course - 2 day

"I thoroughly enjoyed this two day workshop. Karen was an excellent and patient teacher, who was on hand at all times - giving assistance if asked, but otherwise leaving me feeling that I had achieved my stained glass panel all on my own! This would be suitable for a beginner, or anyone who has done a little stained glass work in the past and needs a refresher. Having refreshments provided was a bonus too. I felt safe in the reduced size group. Give it a go!"

Fiona Ibberson reviewed: Silver jewellery making course

"I bought this course as a 16th birthday treat for my daughter and we loved it. Unfortunately the first date had to be cancelled because of lockdown but Karen contacted us and offered alternative dates as soon as she was able. The studio was well set up to provide distancing measures. Both my daughter and I came away really pleased with what we managed to achieve with Karen's help. Karen was really friendly, patient and explained well what we needed to do. I would highly recommend the course"

Andrea reviewed: Fused glass workshops for all

"Really enjoyed the fused glass workshop. Karen explained the different types of fusing, demonstrated how to cut the glass with plenty of help and advice on making my own pieces. I made a coaster size hanging, little dish, sushi plate and even had time to make a pendant at the end of the class! Can’t wait to see my artwork when they’ve been fired! I’d definitely recommend the class and I’m going back for more glass fusing soon!"

"My daughter and I went on the fused glass course in July 2019 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I made 2 coasters and a larger square piece too. Karen gave excellent instruction on how to cut glass and other techniques when we first arrived and then we started making our unique works of art! Karen was very friendly and patient and gave advice when needed. There was a great afternoon tea for lunch and plenty of coffees and teas. I am now really looking forward to seeing what my work looks like once it has been fired and sent out to me."

Suzy Berry reviewed: Fused glass workshops for all

"Me and my boyfriend went for a day course in fused glass at the beginning of May. Karen was friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. It was easy enough to find and Karen kept in contact before to make sure we knew where we were going. We’ve never done anything like this before, Karen was extremely knowledgable and taught us everything we needed to know for the day plus a bit more! It was great fun and a lot easier than I thought it would be. She gave you the flexibility and guidance to practice and then create your own mini masterpieces! We came away with 2 coasters each and a bigger peice, my boyfriend made a bowl and I made a clock (a bit more complicated but Karen helped me through it!) it’s a great fun day and a really good price, the lunch was lovely and we got to sit outside. I’d definitely recommend it, we were complete novices but the other lady who joined us had done some before and Karen handled the different level of knowledge and expertise like a pro."
