Emily Whitton reviewed: Rag Rugs and Wallhangings - traditional hand hooking and prodding and related techniques

"This course was absolutely wonderful! I cannot rate it highly enough. I was a complete beginner with Rag Rugging and came away hooked. Throughout the day Lynne took us through a variety of techniques and and inspired us to use materials that we would have never thought of! She was patient and incredibly skilled. Lynne had countless beautiful examples of rag rugs to share with us. All main materials are provided (hessian, rugging frame, prodding and hooking tools) and yours to keep after the class. I especially appreciated this as I couldn't wait to keep working at home! She also provided a superb lunch, tea and coffee - it truly felt like a craft retreat day."

"I attended Lynn's rag rug workshop on 2nd August 2019, I had been wanting to attend her workshops for some time, but the dates hadn't worked out - so glad that I went today - I highly recommend this course. Lynn's work is inspirational!, her colours, design and the wide range of projects and commissions she has been involved in are fascinating. She is an excellent facilitator/course leader, making learning fun and at a relaxed pace. The course includes your own good sized frame, hook and prodder (to take away) with lots of opportunities to learn techniques and test out skills and learn about fabric. The very tasty delicious lunch (homemade tomato, orange and basil soup, salads, falafel, hummus, and stuffed vine leaves) added to a wonderful experience - thank you."

"I wanted to explore all the possibilities for making textile wall hangings. Like those I've encountered at various exhibitions. Lynne's course did not disappoint. She expertly showed us how to use a wide variety of materials, including supermarket carrier bags and bath spongees in the making of some fabulous pieces of artwork. I wanted to learn the basic techniques, but came away with so much more. I can't wait to finish my first project and I'm looking forward to returning later in the year for a more advanced course with Lynne."

Julie Harrison reviewed: Introduction to Needlefelting

"A really inspiring day. Lynne is so creative in her art ..... and also in her home and culinary vegetarian cuisine and cakes. This is the second workshop I have attended (Rag Rugging being the 1st), and both have been as enjoyable and inspiring as each other and the atmosphere was very welcoming, and relaxing. I have acquired technique skills and "know-how" ability from both, and look forward to combining both media to create my own artworks. The food was truly delicious again, and it was interesting to meet new and artistic people. I am now hooked & have spent most evening since this workshop needle felting in front of the TV. !! As my friend Debbie said (also attending the course) "I have realised during this wonderful day, how important 'being creative' is to my general, mood & outlook on life" .... I totally agree, so thank you Lynne for an inspiring and healing day."

Alison Humphries reviewed: Introduction to Needlefelting

"This was my second visit to Lynne's lovely studio - this time to learn needle felting. Lynne provided all necessary materials - foam block, needles and holder, backing fabric and a huge selection of merino wools, yarns and embellishments. An enthusiastic group of students quickly became entranced and the sound of many needles punching wool was heard. Everyone took their own path with Lynne on hand to offer advice on construction of the 2D and 3D forms. By the end of the day, cows, sheep, birds and other animals had been created, as well as several pictures. Everyone agreed that they were hooked on a new craft. Tasty soup, salad and cake kept us going throughout the day. Thanks again Lynne."

"A great beginners course in a lovely setting. Lynne began by showing various hangings and other items she has created which was very inspiring. After stretching hessian on a frame - which was ours to keep along with the hooking and prodding tools provided - she clearly explained the key techniques. We were then able to try for ourselves and use different and unexpected materials including plastic bags! During the day there was plenty of tasty food and drink provided. Highly recommended."

"Had a fun day as a complete beginner learning the techniques of rag-rugging and wall hangings. Learning the use of mixing fabrics and plastics along with wire and all sorts of different embellishments as we went along. I wish I'd had the foresight to work one corner to make a sampler so that I can keep and refer back to techniques we learned whereas now I have the image in my head that I want to do, I may have to restart some of it. That said, Lynne was so great at getting us started that it should take no time at all. My other half's t-shirts are no longer safe!"
