Maker's bio

Rachel Morley creates unique felt items by hand using predominantly British breed wool fibres and combining them with natural and dyed wool yarns. Rachel studied Fine Art Printmaking at Loughborough College of Art & Design and has also studied Felt Making at Diploma level. Inspired by the coastal landscape of South West Scotland and its wonderful colours and textures, Rachel’s range includes British Breed Bowls, Cubby Bowls, Cubbyholes, Doorstops, Pebble Bowls, Pebble Pods and Word Bowls. Rachel is striving to make use of some of our rarest British Breed Wool fibres in her felt and source them directly from small British farms adding a valuable provenance to her work. Rachel also enjoys teaching others how to make felt! She has run many different workshops to introduce people to various felting techniques such as wet felting and needle felting. Over the years participants have made bowls, flowers, bunting, seasonal decorations and even pumpkins!

"I really loved learning how to create a wet felted bowl, layering it up, felting it and then gently massaging it into shape. Rachel is a lovely, kind and encouraging teacher and obviously an expert at her craft. The facilities were beautiful and well equipped and I love my finished little bowl. Thank you for a lovely day. "

Cynthia Turner reviewed: Wet Felting Bowl Workshop

"I very much enjoyed Rachel's Wet Felting Bowl Workshop. I'd had a go at wet felting before and wanted to learn how to make a bowl. Rachel's a great tutor, patient and friendly, and her instructions are very good, both during the workshop and the written notes we were given, so much so that I was inspired to make more bowls at home. It's a lovely craft to try, very tactile, mindful and therapeutic."

Rachel Morley Feltmaker and Fine Artist responded:

"Hi Cynthia, Thank you for such lovely feedback! It was a pleasure to teach you how to hand felt a bowl and I am thrilled that you have continued to make further bowls. Clearly you have caught the felting bug! Thanks again and Happy Felting! Best wishes, Rachel Morley"
