"I booked this event as a gift for my Mum for me, my brother and Mum to do together. And I’m so glad I did. It was genuinely one of the best experiences I’ve done and would highly recommend it. Max is extremely talented, a fantastic teacher and a kind person. What made the whole day so special was how relaxed it was and how comfortable we all felt. I can’t believe we started the day with a piece of tree (with the bark!) and ended up with a wooden spoon we could actually use. It took a lot of hard work chopping and concentration with the knife but I’m really proud of what I did. Max did a great job explaining and showing the different techniques so we could do it all ourselves, but if we needed some extra help he quickly helped us catch up. I bought this just as something fun for us to do as a family but I found the experience so rewarding and relaxing that I’ve actually got myself a couple of the tools so I can do some more. And I think my brother will too. Thank you Max for the most fantastic day - a really memorable and enjoyable experience! 💚"

Max Sconyers III responded:

"Thank you for the kind words Tash! It was a pleasure to meet you and your family. I'm so happy to hear that you have been inspired to start on your own carving journey. I am always here for any questions or further tuition. Cheers!"

"What a great workshop! From beginning to end, thoroughly enjoyed every minute! Max is a great teacher, guiding us through each step of spoon carving with heaps of knowledge, kindness and patience, especially as we’ve never done any form of carving before. The workshop space is tranquil, the food was delicious and super happy with our spoon and spatuloon 😂. Both me and my husband had a fantastic time and would highly recommend. To say this workshop is good value for money is an understatement! Honestly can't thank Max enough for a great day, a great experience, and a great first dip into wood carving, leaving us wanting to do more."

"Can't recommend this course enough! Shared a chilled Saturday afternoon with my 12 yr old son, learning by doing, in Max's peaceful garden workshop. Max is delightful company but also somehow manages to be completely relaxed and completely in control of things at the same time. I think there must be very few situations I would feel OK watching my son swinging an axe, but this was one of them! It was so enjoyable, and learning practical skills together felt like an easy, natural way to spend time with my growing son. Thanks so much Max! I really appreciate what you do. "

Max Sconyers III responded:

"Thanks MC! It was such a pleasure working with you and your son. What a great young man and great mum. You’re welcome back anytime. "

Would highly recommend and if my son has anything to do with it we'll be booking another day!"

Max Sconyers III responded:

"Thanks Jaclyn! It was wonderful to teach your son and his friends. He is a keen carver and excellent student. Tell him I said hello!"

"What a fabulous day. To have a piece of wood and carve it into a spoon by the end of the day with no experience beforehand was an achievement. Max is such an interesting person to talk to and be around. Please give this a go for a fun day out. "

Max Sconyers III responded:

"Thanks Nic! Thanks Den! It was great to meet you both and spend the day carving together. Keep well."

"This course was absolutely brilliant, my wife and I had an amazing time. Max was the best instructor, he explained everything clearly and in a very relaxed manner. It was easy to tell how passionate he is about wood and spoon carving and this really elevated the day. He constantly checked in on our progress as we all carved the spoons together. The lunch over the fire was also brilliant, a nice touch to the day. Highly recommend to anyone thinking about learning to carve a spoon. "

Max Sconyers III responded:

"Thanks for the kind words, Jack! It was a pleasure carving together. Hope to see you two around. Happy Carving!"

"I entered this course with ZERO wood carving experience. Max’s teaching was so thorough and well thought out. The skills were taught very clearly. I left with a spoon I am really proud of! Without Max, I never would have been able to accomplish it. Thanks so much, Max!!"

Max Sconyers III responded:

"Thanks, Melissa! It was great to have you at the workshop."

"We did the workshop with Max and had a great day. He's very knowledgeable, friendly and super helpful. It's certainly a challenge, but a very rewarding one; next time I see the price of a hand-carved spoon, I will be more understanding. The location is lovely, and it comes with tea, coffee and bics. Would definitely recommend"

Max Sconyers III responded:

"Thanks so much Debbie and Nick! Wonderful to meet and carve with you both. "

"What a special day spent in the woodland experiencing the expert craftsmanship alongside the maestro Max Schonyers. I left pretty chuffed with my newly acquired skills and carrying my hand crafted wooden spoon as promised and an unexpected gift of walnut oil. Highly recommended… especially that the fee for the days outing goes to important and good causes. "

Max Sconyers III responded:

"Thanks Jillian! Wonderful day of carving together. Cheers!"

"Max is an amazing teacher! He carefully explained each step of the process and was always there to lend a hand if you were struggling. Max showed us all how to safely and effectively use all the tools as well as answering any questions we had. Everyone was free to choose the template they wanted and had the chance to make changes to the design along the way. I found the experience not only very satisfying but also extremely relaxing. We all came away with an awesome, unique and functional spoon!! Will definitely be back and can highly recommend :)"

"I did this course with Max on Saturday. It was brilliant. Really good fun. Max is a great teacher and very knowledgeable. The day was well structured, the environment is great (like sitting in a forest but whilst actually in an urban garden!) and we got lunch cooked up on the fire pit. As someone with zero creative ability, I came out having hand carved a wooden spoon that I can actually use! Max was really attentive and walked around helping everyone during the course. We were in really good hands all the way through. Recommend to anyone who wants to learn a new skill, would also be pretty good for corporates as a team building activity. It's really collaborative and nice as a group activity"

"I had a great experience with this workshop. The whole process is very satisfying, starting from a log to then carving your own spoon out of it. I would totally do it again to improve my skills. Max is an excellent instructor, he is there throughout the whole process making sure we are progressing and giving tips and advices. He is great to incentive as well, especially when your spoon doesn’t look like a spoon :D I had a lot of questions, and he helped me to improve my carving technique as well as drawing schematics to support the process. I didn’t know what to expect and I found carving is very fun and relaxing. The hours passed by quickly and the feeling of making your own spoon at the end is very nice. This course is a skill for life. "

"As a complete beginner this is a great course! Max explained each step and not just how to do something but the reason why we were doing it too. We really did go from a piece of wood to a spoon! Learnt how to use different tools, including axe work (that other courses I've looked at haven't had the opportunity to use). Max showed us step by step and let us move at our own pace. It was a very relaxing and positive environment, everyone had freedom to make different designs and everyone came away with a successful spoon! Would definitely recommend, I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be coming back to make another! Thank you Max!"
