"We attended the beginners woodwork class with Sami and it exceeded all our expectations! The day was jam packed with information (we even brought a little notebook to make notes 😂) including lots of tips and advice on where to source materials and tools, not just a demonstration of the tools in workshop. Sami specifically uses tools that you can either buy from standard DIY merchants or rent, so that you can put your skills to practice after the class. I chose the class because of the breadth of skills it covers (using a mitre/chop saw, hand sander, power tools such as electric screwdrivers and drills, using wood filler and wood stain) and I came away feeling very confident in applying all of these to my own DIY projects.
We were also able to ask plenty of questions, so if you had a DIY project in mind Sami can give you advice on how to approach it, and it’s just so handy to be able to speak face to face with and expert. I didn’t feel like any question was too small or stupid, and what we learned in 8 hours would have taken me days if not weeks of studying YouTube videos and getting confused and defeated.
Also lovely location and hospitality! I was fully expecting a dingy cold workshop with a tiny toilet 😂 but the 1912 mill is a lovely arts and culture spot, very clean and tidy and we’d love more time to explore it (we are from out of town so just came for the day). We were in a group of 5 so there was lots of time and we didn’t feel rushed (even if I didn’t quite finish my project oops!). Nice friendly vibe amongst us and was nice to chat to each other, plus a lovely spread out on for lunch by Sami of sandwiches, quiche, crisps and nibbly bits 😋 plus tea, coffee and biscuits available throughout the day. Thank you so much Sami! 🙏"
