"Lovely session with Joan whose well-organised workshop gave myself and 8 yr old grand-daughter a good introduction to making clay pots. G’dau very pleased to be hands-on, and followed guidance to make something unique, useful and rewarding. Hope to be back.
" Thankyou Sally, I loved how Rosie went into production mode!
The confidence and ability always is such a joy to see from someone so young 🙃, look forward to seeing you both in the future😊
"I had a brilliant time at the taster session and learned so much. I really can't recommend a pottery session with Joan highly enough. It was a perfect balance of instruction and practice. Rather than trying to squeeze in too much, Joan suggested choosing two methods from handbuilding, pinch/coil pots and throwing on the wheel, which really made the most of the session. Joan is a very knowledgeable teacher and was very generous with her time. "
" Aah Thankyou Hannah you are very talented and I can’t believe what you and your mum achieved, you really do need to find some classes near you and carry on and if you need any advice please just ask 😊"
"I spent a very pleasant and enjoyable afternoon with Joan getting an introduction into a new craft I’ve never explored before. Joan was welcoming and friendly and very passionate about her art. She was patient and took the time to explain everything to me. No question I asked was silly. I loved how once the technique was explained to you Joan was happy to step back and let you take the lead, pottering around close by and on hand if you needed help but not hovering over you making you feel uncomfortable. The conversation was light and easy. I really enjoyed exploring all the different materials and tools you could use on the clay, Joan is more than happy to let you root around and see what you can find and I've made some lovely pieces that I’m sure I’ll treasure for a very long time.
I was really nervous about using the potters wheel but once again Joan was calm and patient, explained everything in detail but not in a way to confuse you. Again I was left to get on with the wheel. I found this very relaxing and therapeutic. Joan was in no hurry to get rid of me and I ended up staying slightly longer than my 3 hours.
Overall a very lovely afternoon. I would highly recommend Joan and her introduction course to anyone interested in pottery or looking for a new hobby to explore. I can’t wait to go back and finish my pieces. Joan, thank you once again for an amazing afternoon."
"I had always wanted to try pottery so was pleased to receive a voucher and booked in with Joan, which was very easy.
I really enjoyed the workshop. Joan was friendly and very knowledgeable. She demonstrated using the potter's wheel and then I was able to have a go myself while Joan was always there to help. And then the same with hand cutting and shaping clay into various things using the numerous cutters, templates etc.
The balance of demonstration, supervision and being left to it was just right and the atmosphere was very relaxing. I was pleased to create quite a few pieces which I can go back and decorate when they've been fired and I'll certainly book on to another of Joan's workshops or courses. Thanks Joan!"
"Joan was a lovely and extremely knowledgeable teacher.
She talked and showed us the basics and then let us free to use our own creativity.
We managed to fit so much in the time and I'm made up with how much I made!
Such an amazing afternoon can't wait to come and finish off my pieces!
"Joan was an excellent teacher. She gave us clear and patient guidance whilst allowing us freedom to be creative. The introductory class was a good taster of many techniques with plenty of time to make a few peices. A thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing afternoon."
"Lovely afternoon, returning to clay after a break of 16 years! Covered lots of teqniques I'd never done before, great fun! Joan was very knowledgeable and patient. Can't wait to go back and finish my pieces and learn more! Thankyou Joan!"
"I had a lovely day learning how to make a pinch pot, a tealight, and make a pot on the potters wheel. Joan was very welcoming and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed the course and can’t wait to go back!"
"I really enjoyed this beginners pottery course. Joan was a very encouraging teacher who managed to explain everything clearly. We fitted a lot into the afternoon yet I never felt rushed and the afternoon flew by. I would recommend without hesitation."
"Not having done pottery before I was excited and a little nervous as to what to expect at the Introduction Class. I need not have worried as Joan gave me all the support I needed in a relaxing, friendly atmosphere. Joan's workshop is magical and I was surprised as to how much pottery I was able to make. I enjoyed the class so much that I came home and booked another session straight away!"
"I've not done pottery since school over 30 years ago so this introduction was a great way to have a go and see if I would like it.
Had a great time. Joan is a fab teacher and showed me a number of different techniques using the clay. The potters wheel was a bit scary but Joan was super-patient and gave really clear instructions which helped calm my nerves!
I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to give pottery a go and I've now booked more time to go back and hopefully improve my skills.
10 out of 10!!!"
" Thanks MelI, I really do think you have found your new hobby ?You did so well at whatever you tried and this was after 30 years!"
"I did this course and now I'm hooked! The introductory course gives you a real insight into all aspects of pottery making. You get the opportunity to experiment with the different methods of making a pot and because classes are kept small, you are helped every step of the way. Joan is an inspirational teacher who is happy to share her vast knowledge and experience. I now go on a weekly basis and am really enjoying learning new skills and learning how to be creative with with slips and glazes. I would highly recommend this course and the classes to all levels."
"A fantastic afternoon, I needed help with 'throwing' on the wheel, Joan was fab , very patient and a great teacher. I came away feeling much more confident. Joan is very passionate about pottery and she has loads of knowledge and is so willing to share and help. Highly recommend her teaching ??"
" It was lovely to see your enthusiasm and determination to pursue the hardest course in pottery THROWING! ?Keep going and here if you need help"
"Fantastic afternoon. Joan created a fun and relaxed atmosphere from the start, she was really helpful and guided us through different techniques, helping us when we needed it and also allowing us to experiment ourselves. I would highly recommend her course!"
"Four of us did a taster session as a birthday treat for our teenage daughter. Joan was welcoming, a great teacher and she was generous with her time, knowledge and praise. She very kindly offered to fire and glaze our poor initial efforts (we were first time pottery throwers). All together a great experience and recommended. We will make the time to return."
"A really enjoyable course. Joan is knowledgeable about a wide range of clay building methods, and is really patient!
I went on the course wanting to learn how to throw on the wheel, but have also found that I enjoy hand building as well.
I could have spent hours in her workshop turning down pots as I find that the concentration is so therapeutic.
I have been back 3 times now, and am looking forward to more this year."
"Really enjoyed my afternoon. Joan is friendly and knowledgeable. I felt really welcome and Joan was really supportive and flexible in her approach. I am hoping to go back and take part in some of her classes in the near future"
" Thankyou for coming Helen and I hope to see you again soon ?"
"Met Joan and she inspired me to take up Pottery and if anyone is ill, I would highly recommend that they take a course of pottery in Joan's Den ? I come for 3 hours and the time fly's by, I have learnt to use the pottery wheel and made a lighthouse (quite complicated as several pieces need joining) but I still have problems centering on the wheel which Joan is helping me with. I have also made cups, bowls and a small teapot ?"
"I was looking for a course to provide me with a few skills and some time to 'play with clay' and I am really enjoying my weekly visits. I have only been going for a month but Joan provides a great calming atmosphere - she has incredible patience and her friendly approach has really allowed me to learn. I am a total beginner and found Joan by chance and I could not recommend her enough. She gives you tips to improve but allows you to take the direction you want - I am now moving on from my pot and bowl but have not used the wheel yet! I have been inspired by her work and also the people I have met through the course. A great relaxing way to spend an evening."
"What a delight! Three hours hard work (well it is now I'm retired), passed in the blink of an eye. Joan, the tutor, is clearly very experienced and very patient with a total novice! I'm not usually a big fan of mucky hands and "yes, Joan" I know my nails are a bit long but I can't wait for next week to see if my masterpiece is still intact. I would highly recommend this course which is growing in popularity."
