"After a warm welcome from James Mouland, my nine year old grandson and I settled down to our marbling session feeling relaxed and keen. He got us participating in a short time without the kind of ponderous lecture that gets one impatient to start. Thereafter he led us through the basic steps with great patience and a professional lightness of touch which engendered confidence. Our two-hour session (sharing a tray) flew by and we both loved it and the results we got. James is personable, engaging and considerate and one senses his vast experience in this exquisite art of Turkish marbling. Really a 5 star experience in every respect and great value for money. "I recently enjoyed a 1 day workshop with James at his Ebru Studio to experience the basic Ebru marbling technique. It was an excellent day, great fun and very absorbing. James is a very friendly, very patient and encouraging teacher and I was amazed and delighted - even as a complete novice I was really thrilled at what I achieved! It's a very forgiving craft - I made mistakes, or at least I thought I had, but with James mistakes don't really happen - he happily encourages and shows a way of converting those 'mistakes' into a creative success! Relaxing, fascinating, absorbing - I would highly recommend doing a workshop with James - and his studio is also in a lovely location!"

"I really enjoyed my workshop with James. I'd had some experience with marbling before but it was fascinating learning about Ebru and trying it myself under the friendly and enthusiastic guidance of James. I love the fact that this is something you can do without having very much artistic talent and you can still get reasonable results. Of course, the master artists spend years trying to achieve perfection in their art and that's another story entirely. The location of the studio is wonderful and it's a great atmosphere. A real pleasure to spend the day here and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anybody."

"I've done two 2-hour workshops with James, both times sharing a 'tray' with someone else, which is a great idea. I thoroughly enjoyed both workshops and James is a fantastic teacher, first giving you the basic techniques, then allowing you to 'freestyle' and create your own designs. At the second workshop he guided me through creating a piece of artwork which I was very pleased with. A class in Ebru is something anyone can try and it's great fun... and you don't need any particular artistic talent beforehand - try and be surprised at what you can do!"

"Wow what a day. I have just had the most amazing day spent with a talented artist and a very friendly person. I was a bit apprehensive about undertaking this course as I am not artistic whatsoever (you should see my attempts at even drawing a cat!) but as it was a gift from my husband I thought nothing ventured nothing gained. I was so nervous as even though I have admired James' products over the years, I have never tried to to it myself and never once thought that I would get a chance to design something even half as beautiful. On arrival I received a huge smile and such a welcome that my nerves just flew away. James is a very peaceful and patient person and not once throughout the day did I feel unwelcome or useless. After a short basic explanation of the history of the artform, it was time for me to have a go. Well let's just say my first few attempts were acceptable! However by the end of the day, I now consider myself a master (well in my own family I am!!). I now have 3 wooden items that can be used for various decoration around the house and I also have some lovely A4 sheets that I am going to have framed and put on the wall at home. I can certainly recommend this course. Beautiful location, talented artist, a new friend has been made and best of all I have some amazing mementos of my day. Give it a go everyone, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. In fact in a few months I am going back to learn even more techniques. Cathy, Manchester"
