Hammer and Hound Forge is a traditional blacksmith's workshop in Blyth, Northumberland, Uk owned by award winning blacksmith Alex Sowden, who you might have seen before on Sky Arts' "The Prince's Master Crafters", or BBC1's "Make It At Market".
We offer a variety of experiences in metalwork for all skill levels, including tuition in welding and fabrication, forging damascus steel, jewellery techniques and much more!
We produce kits of hand forged woodworking supplies, as well as tools for other crafts, though our stock is often forged on commission.
We also take on larger work, such as forging gates and railings, overthrows, staircases and all variety of ironwork.

"Would highly recommend this course! Alex is an incredibly knowledgeable teacher and the whole experience was brilliant - he's highly skilled and was really helpful in guiding us through the day, leaving us to learn but also stepping in where needed! We covered so many different elements and at the end of the day left with an actual functioning axe! "
"Great experience day.
Christmas gift for my son and went with him and what a great day we both had. Alex is a great host and excellent instructor. Friendly, incredibly knowledgeable and keen to share his passion and skills.
We'll be back again, suspect for the axe making.
"Amazing experience day! I gifted this to my boyfriend and went with him and we both loved it! Alex was the nicest, friendliest teacher, so patient and taught us so much - his passion and incredible knowledge and skill of his craft is clear.
The knifes we came home with are so good, and we had the most fun making them! 100% will be back for more fun at the forge soon "
Hammer and Hound Forge responded:
" Thank you Ren! I hope your blades serve you well! "
