Hello, my name is Jason Stocks-Young, founder and owner of Diamond Awl Leather Workshop. My studio is on the edge of the Pennines, near Manchester where the leather workshops take place. I started making leather goods over 10 years ago, learning from a traditional saddle maker using traditional leatherwork techniques.
I share my passion for my craft through teaching others and recently featured in the BBC2 TV series Saved and Remade and BBC1 series Made in Great Britain, a celebration and exploration of our manufacturing heritage. I am a member of the Guild of Master Craftsmen and a Board Member of the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair.
"I thoroughly enjoyed the 1 day course and have learnt so much. Jason's knowledge is extensive and his enthusiasm is evident. I'm delighted, and somewhat surprised, with what I achieved. All down to Jason's excellent tutoring and patience. Would highly recommend. "
"I completed a one day course last week, 16th July. It was great. I learnt a lot about different leathers. Jason is so enthusiastic about his subject and very helpful. The opportunity to get hands on experience and come away with a lovely item was brilliant. A long day, but really enjoyable. Thanks."
"My friend and I did this 1-day course yesterday and we absolutely loved it.
Jason is knowledgeable, friendly, straight-talking and has excellent choice in music!!! 😜
We each made a lovely (if I do say so myself) passport holder and learnt soooo much. I was very proud of the end result and kind of want to repeat the day so I can do it better, now that I've learned more. I loved the stitching the best!!!! "
"Really enjoyed the two day course with expert tuition from Jason and Louise, who made it great, fun experience. "
