"Dawn organised a great day learning about free motion embroidery. She had loads of materials to work with, was very helpful if people were uncertain how to set up their sewing machines, and good at offering suggestions if we wanted them. Plenty of parking near her studio. And there was excellent cake! I will be going back. Thank you 😊 "

"I joined this day course in free-embroidery as a complete beginner. I wasn’t even very confident using my machine. Dawn was very encouraging and supportive. She has an excellent supply of materials for course members to use and provides lots of examples of work that she has done for inspiration. I’ll need to practice much more before I can produce anything I’m happy with but I now know the basics and am looking forward to further experimentation at home. "

"A great day - with the right amount of instruction to get us started, but then complete freedom to play and be creative on our own projects, but with constant presence / support for when we needed it. So much fun to play, and in a studio full of resources and inspiration in every nook. And there was homemade cake!"

With basic knowledge of the stitches we are coming up with so many ways to be creative with them - who would have thought that chain stitch could do so much. Dawn is a fabulous teacher, I learnt so much from her instruction and now feel much more confident in using the machine to draw and create appliqué pictures. The studio is bright, airy and full of Dawn's inspirational pieces of work. Would wholeheartedly recommend this course (well worth the long drive from Harrogate!) and will be booking on again. "

Dawn encourages us to be playful and once we have learnt the rules, how to break them. "First time I have ever been to such a course and a beginner at that. Dawn is friendly, approachable and kind. She taught me how to use my machine - who knew it could do such a thing! A skill I would love to develop. The personal touches made it unique. It was worth going just to get your own cute stitched name badge, handmade by Dawn herself, along with the homemade cake! If I lived closer, I would go again to build up my confidence, as I think practice would be beneficial. The workshop is a quirky space and quite inspirational in itself. I would recommend anyone to try- but not to become too popular as I would like to go again!"

"We had a wonderful time on this workshop with Dawn. Dawn gave us demonstrations for each stage of our work and provided lots of inspiration plus all materials, threads etc. that we needed. She spent time giving each of us help and encouragement and helping with our sewing machines when needed. In fact my sewing machine refused to work and Dawn had a spare ready for me to be able to use! I would highly recommend Dawn's workshops, they are friendly and relaxed , with lots of tea and coffee provided, plus a rather delicious cake!"

"What a great day was had by the five on the workshop. Dawn is a very skilled craftswoman; I have one of her embroidery pictures in my dining room and look at it everyday. This inspired me to have a go and I was not disappointed by the workshop I attended yesterday. Dawn began with short demos to show us the basic embroidery processes and had masses of example pieces, to inspire us, or we could use our own ideas and source materials; this was what I chose to do. She talked me through the possible ways to realise my idea in embroidery and was on hand every step of the way when I needed fresh input. She also supplied refreshments during the day including her own home made cake. She was helpful and calm throughout, was positive, encouraging and non-judgmental: A perfect teaching manner! I just wish I lived closer and could attend workshops more often."

"3 of us attended the course and we all enjoyed it enormously. Dawn taught us in manageable bite sized pieces and spent time with each of us individually giving us suggestions or pointers. The studio is light, bright and airy and the resources available for inspiration and to use as appliqué were plentiful. The hot drinks kept coming and we were treated to homemade chocolate cake!! We’ll definitely return."

"Wonderful day, Dawn the perfect instructor knowing when to offer advice and when to leave to be creative and never judgmental. The whole environment is very inspiring with ideas, pictures, samples and more haberdashery than any shop these days. The studio is flooded with light too so a beautiful place to be. I had travelled 100 miles each way to the course and it was well worth it. Dawn was so hospitable with drinks on demand and the most amazing cake, well above and beyond what other courses offer The toilet is very clean and pleasant, I was concerned about this with the general age of the building but I need not have worried. Covid precautions were excellent too with clear signage about expectations and hand sanitizer at many locations. I felt very safe from this point of view. Thank you Dawn."

"I recently attended a whole day course with Dawn. It was amazing! The day just flew by. Dawn did a demonstration to begin where I learned new skills and was always on hand with help and advice during the day. She was also the perfect hostess with plenty of drinks, biscuits and a delicious chocolate cake. I had no experience of machine embroidery but soon became engrossed and also learned how to use previously unused functions on my sewing machine. The studio is the perfect environment - stimulating and with every conceivable resource. I can’t wait to go back again for another course."
