Description

Learn to wood turn in a heated workshop with one to one tuition.

These 2 days do not need to be taken together and often people complete day 1 and then get some practice time (and some new tools!) in and then come back to learn a bit more. Expect to cover:

Day 1
Prep talk on: Health & Safety - Dust Extraction - Lathe choice - Tools - Sanding - Finishing - Timber - tool sharpening.
Then let's get turning your first project.
Lunch break.
Finish turning a small bowl which you can take home with you.

Day 2
Pretty flexible but after a few safety reminders:
If you bring your tools you can learn how to sharpen them
Then you'll turn something a bit more challenging putting into practice
the skills learned on day 1.

This course is one to one which is by far the best way to start woodturning. You can learn at your own speed without feeling under any pressure. I’ll push you a little but it’s your course at your pace. You’ll be surprised how quickly you can learn the basics.

My heated workshop has 2 lathes, a Hegner HDB 200XL and a VB 36 Master Bowlturner. Dust extraction out to an adjoining store with Micromesh ceiling filter.

If you require accommodation I can advise when you book.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

All timber and health & safety equipment supplied.

Includes lunch, tea & coffee whenever you need a break.

In-person course
Tony Bennett - - #33475

The 1 to 1 course was a great way learn the basics of a new craft. Stuart was both informative and patient, demonstrating various skills and then giving guidance as you tried them yourself. Safety was always considered, and something that you might not get from a video. It was also rewarding to take home 2 pieces of work - which have been admired by others. An enjoyable course which I can recommend.
I now feel more confident to set up my own lathe and get started!

Response from The Scottish Woodturner:
