Description
This course is aimed primarily at students who are interested in taking up pen making and want to explore the complexities and possibilities of this craft. During the day will will cover the following. - Appreciation of the necessary health and safety requirements. - An understanding of how pens are constructed. - Material possibilities (wood, acrylic, etc.) - The different options, ie fountain, propelling pencil, ball point. - The available pen kit styles. - The necessary tools and equipment involved. - Preparing the material for the lathe. - Mounting the material on the lathe, shaping and polishing. - Selection and applying a finish. - Assembling the completed components. A full day will usually run from 10:00 – 16:00 but the day is flexible. Please note, dress in suitable clothing and footwear for a day in the workshop.
