X

Description

This course is the aimed at people who want to come with a friend or family member. If you would like a one to one course please book on my other course (see 'more from this course organiser' below). About Me My wood turning work has mainly consisted of staircase associated work and general architectural work (e.g. newel posts & spindles), but I have a developed a passion for craft turning in varied forms over recent years. I want to pass on this knowledge and help others to developed their own wood turning skills. I am very happy to support all ages and levels of ability wherever I can. I have a purpose built workshop fully equipped with two well-equipped professional lathes, a range of sharpening equipment, health & safety equipment and I have the capacity to work from log to bowl (there’s a wood burner in case it gets cold). The Course Through my salt and pepper mill course I have received a lot of interest in an introduction to woodturning and so am now offering a one day course, with the option to continue for further days if wished. This course is flexible and is suitable for people who would like to learn about the basics of woodturning or to enhance their rudimentary skills. This one day course will provide an introduction to the tools and techniques of wood turning, and you’ll go home the proud owner of a simple hand-turned item at the end of the day. For example, you might create a garden dibber or a simple bowl. The bowl pictured was created in one day with a little help! If this is your first time at wood turning, we can look at the various tools and cuts they make. We can then concentrate on one aspect to allow you to make a simple item. Much of the wood used is locally sourced from fallen or unwanted trees. Details A full day will usually run from 10:00 – 16:00 but the day is flexible. This course is run with up to two students working on the same kind of project at a time. Please note, dress in suitable clothing and footwear for a day in the workshop. I normally run the courses on Thursdays and Fridays when I'm available but I'm flexible to fit in with people's individual needs, please contact me with dates that suit you.
