Tailoring Taster Class

X

Description

Learn sewing skills using the oldest and most skilled techniques that have been handed down from generation to generation.

Savile Row is a street in Mayfair that has housed and trained tailors for 250 years. It is known world wide for its high end, hand crafted suits. Even in Japan the word for suit is 'sebiru', a corruption of 'Savile Row’.

This course is a taster of what Savile Row is all about. The day will consist of secrets of the trade from hand stitching to tailoring techniques used to make these high end garments. These new skills will then be used to make a tie to take home and cherish or gift to a friend.

Your tutor Emma Brigitte Martin has been a coat maker on Savile Row for 13 years. Learning her skills from the very best master tailors. She became BBC 3's Young Tailor of the Year in 2011 and has since appeared in Vogue and gone on to train her own apprentice, whom recently won Rising Star at the prestigious Golden Shears competition on Thread Needle street. She has taught many others from course classes to interns.

Whether you are a dress maker keen to see a different side of making, intrigued by the craftsmanship of tailoring or would love to make a tie, then come and join Emma to expand your knowledge in this heritage craft.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

Reviews

In-person course
Sue Wagstaff - - #35836

I recently attender one of Emmas courses and thought it was great. I have sewn for years but had very little knowledge of tailoring and all its secrets. I was given lots of tips that I can use in my everyday sewing as well as give me knew eyes to see what work goes into a professionally tailored garment. Emma was lovely and the day was both relaxing and great fun.

An insightful experience that demonstrated the fascinating world of high-end tailoring. Emma was knowledgeable, highly skilled and very patient. I would definitely recommend this enjoyable experience.

Response from Tailor and Apprentice:

Thank you Patricia, really enjoyed teaching you and sharing Savile Rows tailoring knowledge.
