Stained Glass - Christmas Decorations (1 day) in the Peak District
Description
Christmas trees, angels, snowmen and stars! Make your own collection of stained glass decorations to treasure year after year. Focusing on the copper foil (Tiffany) technique, you will learn how to cut, shape and join glass. This course is perfect for beginners and improvers. Templates will be provided or you may wish to develop your own simple designs. Use beads and wire to add finishing touches. Over the day's workshop, you will learn all the skills needed to make Tiffany-style decorations: • Selecting suitable glass • Scoring and breaking glass to fit your chosen pattern • Glass grinding • Applying copper foil to the cut pieces • Tacking and soldering • Applying Patinas "I really enjoyed this course. Tutor: Lin Fletcher Lin has been working with glass for over 20 years, focusing on bespoke pieces, restoration and teaching. Her most recent activities have been with a team of glaziers restoring the numerous windows of Manchester Town Hall. Health & Safety This workshop involves the handling and soldering of metals (specifically lead, tin and copper). It also requires the use of sharp materials, hot tools and chemicals. Protective goggles, gloves and dust masks will be provided. Whilst every effort is made to keep the studio environment safe and well ventilated, if you are pregnant/breastfeeding or suffer from asthma or dermatitis, for your own assurance, we recommend you seek medical advice before booking this course. Start time: Join us from 9.30am for tea/coffee and introductions. Tuition starts at 10.00am. There are breaks for lunch and a tea & cake mid-afternoon. What's included in the price?
Fee includes professional tuition, lunch and refreshments - an additional materials fee applies. Materials fee: £20 per person. This covers all the glass, copper foil, solder, wire, beads and consumables required to several decorations. A tasty light lunch is included in the course fee. Please let us know of any special dietary requirements. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available all day to help yourself and there will be home-made cake mid afternoon.
