Description

This is a fun, relaxed workshop where you will explore the process of lino cutting and printing and adding a splash of colour using the method of Chine Colle (collage). A selection of spring themed images will be provided to inspire you or you are welcome to bring along your own photos, downloaded images or drawings. You will start the process with selecting your image and creating your design which you will then transfer onto your piece of A6 Lino. Often people trace from photos to transfer the design, others are quite happy to draw freehand- that is completely up to you. It can also be a mixture of tracing and free drawing. You will learn how to transfer your design in negative format onto the lino, use different size tools to carve away areas and leave the image for printing. We will make proof prints as we carve the lino, to enable you to see the image emerging and make decisions about your composition You will experiment with printing onto different papers and you will also have the opportunity to prepare chine colle collage that is added as you print. I have a selection of tissue papers and inked papers, but if you have some interesting (non-shiny, lightweight) papers, bring them along to try out. You will learn how to print using basic techniques as well as on a traditional book printing press. The aim is that you will go home with at least 5 prints you are happy with. You will also have your lino cut so that you can print more at a later date.
