Sketchbook to Stitch Day - Mixed Media Textile Art
Description
This workshop is all about exploring and experimenting with colour, pattern and texture. Embroidery artist Jessica Grady will begin the workshop by showing you various ways to add colour and pattern to paper through mixed media approaches using paint, collage and different resists such as bleach, tape and collage. You will build up a selection of patterns and designs which will inspire your embroidery later in the workshop. After a lunch break you will use your textured sketchbook papers to act as an inspiration (or even materials!) towards a 3D embroidered and embellished piece of textile art. As well as traditional fabrics and threads, Jessica will demonstrate how you can use unusual materials such as plumbing pipe, washers and dyed recycled plastics to create your own colourful embellishments, sequins and beads. All materials for this workshop are included in the ticket price. All you need to bring along is yourself, a packed lunch and an apron for the messy, morning part of the workshop! The workshop is hosted in the lovely art room at Clements Hall, which is situated just outside the very centre of York. Weekend parking is also available, and the venue is an easy 10 minute walk from York train station.
