💚 Come and learn how to make a pair of chunky socks, perfect for slouching round the house or in your wellies. 💛 These will make perfect Christmas gifts, they work up reasonably quickly and easily. A thoughtful present for loved ones. 🧡 This is my own pattern, and the pattern can be sized to fit.

What's included in the price?

❤️ All materials included for the session, plus free tea, coffee and a sweet treat. You will take home enough yarn to finish your pair of socks. ❤️ A workbook is included for you to take home, with a full run down of what you will learn in the session, which is the pattern and sizing of the socks.

I am a textile artist based in Yorkshire. I teach textile arts (knitting, crochet, spinning yarn and more) and I also occasionally sell my pieces. I love meeting new people and teaching them skills that they can use to create beautiful pieces. I am almost completely self-taught - which means I have found ways of learning and teaching that are flexible, and I have not met someone yet who I cannot teach the skill they wish to learn!

FAQs

It's not ideal for a beginner to be learning a slightly more advanced stitch, but if you are already comfortable with a hook and yarn you may have a good chance of learning how to follow the pattern in a session with me. However, in these more advanced classes, you may not get the 1:1 time you require as I will have more people in the class. I would recommend if you are concerned about following the pattern, come to my beginner course and you can get started on building the foundations to follow this pattern.

There is limited on-street parking around the venue, but the public transport is very good into Silsden. Many Hands 25 CIC is on Kirkgate. Sadly not wheelchair accessible as there is a flight of stairs to get into the studio.

Yes they will, and I try and ensure that there are choices in colours etc. However, if you would like to bring your own to use, please feel free!

"What a fab time tonight! Really lovely space and the tutor was friendly, patient and encouraging. I was a total novice so learning a bit of theory basics before getting into the practical work was welcome. I was nervous at first and thought that I’d never be able to get it but after lots of encouragement I got there! Was a great evening, I’ve learnt the basics but definitely need lots more practice and probably a bit tuition but loads of progress in 2 hours. Felt like I’ve achieved something with a lovely friendly tutor! The fact the classes help pay for the room that supports people facing mental health challenges is just an extra bonus. "Georgie was very welcoming, however myself, my mum & my sister didn’t feel like we were taught all of the content, we only went through a couple of different crochet stitches, then the last part of the course content was rushed and we didn’t learn any of those stitches as Georgie went far too fast for us to retain the information. The course could be better."

"Hi Sharon, I'm so sorry you did not feel that you got the full experience of learning to crochet with me, and I'd like to rectify this if I can. I haven't heard from you at all since the session and I did offer you to contact me with any issues, as it is a lot of information to take in over just a 2 hour session. I am free for either a refresh session for an hour if you'd like, either in person or on Zoom/ Teams. The booklet provided the information you learnt in the session (crochet theory, the stitches etc.), and further learning for you to follow (ie. the granny square pattern), but only once you were confident with the basics. As I said, this would not have been fully covered in the Learn To Crochet session as you were still learning. Thank you for your honest feedback as it all helps towards me tailoring these sessions so that they can suit all. "I attended Georgie's crochet for beginners workshop on Saturday 25th March 2024. I'd been looking around for a beginner's crochet workshop and have done a different workshop with Craft Courses before. The location wasn't too far from me, price was reasonable as it included wool and hook to take home and I liked the idea of a 2 hour workshop as I find I tend to lose concentration if it's any longer. There were 4 other ladies attending and it was a very friendly atmosphere. The course was held in a room above commercial premises in the heart of Silsden. Communications with Georgie before the workshop were very good, as I needed to ask about parking as I'm not from that local area. Georgie offered us all coffee or tea at the beginning which was a nice thing to do and there was a jar of biscuits on the table if required. We then started by learning about different wools and crochet hooks and how these can influence what you might make. I found this information very useful. We then progressed onto making the first chain and later on how to make a double chain. We were all given a useful handout which explained what we were doing with diagrams and also explained comparisons with UK & US terminology for crochet. Georgie is a very warm, friendly and exceptionally helpful teacher and has loads of patience which was great as most of seemed to be all fingers and thumbs to begin with which made us all laugh. But she encouraged perseverance and we all seemed to get the hang of those basic steps by the end of the workshop. I would recommend this workshop to anyone looking to learn how to crochet. Georgie clearly loves crochet and is very giving of her time, skills and knowledge. "
