Raku Firing Course

Description

Come and enjoy the excitement of raku. Glaze a pre made vase ( There is a selection to choose from or you can bring your own biscuit fired piece with approval or even book in for a pottery/sculpture class a few weeks before and create your own piece) then you will be carefully run through all the steps of firing as you help load the kiln and watch as it reaches temperature, giving you the chance to chat with others and enjoy drinks and nibbles while the kiln starts to roar. Around half an hour later the kiln has reached around 1000 degrees and you will get the opportunity to suit up in all the safety equipment and get hands on with burning your piece in sawdust and other combustibles, watch it burn then cover it with a reduction chamber and wait a few minutes for the magic to happen! When you take the piece out you cool it with water and scrub off the carbon in a bucket of water to see your finished piece. The course is led by Angelique, a highly qualified Ceramicist with over 20 years experience in sculpture and raku firing and many years of teaching experience at her own pottery studio. It is a relaxed and enjoyable class with easy to follow instructions and some brilliant results

"My aim is to inspire and teach others to inspire themselves" I am a qualified ceramicist, my large sculptures featuring in large gardens around the country such as RHS. With a well equipped studio Nr Bude in Cornwall in a wonderfully peaceful setting, you can really relax and get into a creative state of mind. I love creating and for the last 20 years have enjoyed sharing my knowledge and passion with others of all ages, from sculpture and Raku firing to throwing and welding workshops.
