Description
On this 2 day course we will be making this very traditional laundry basket. Never again will hanging out the washing feel like a chore! We will start with an English underfoot oval base, followed by waled and randed sides, rod border and handles or finger holes. The willow is from the Somerset Levels. Various natural colours will be available for you to choose from. Previous basketry experience or being practically minded will be an advantage for this course. Focused children over the age of 10 are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Course taught by Jane Welsh.

I have been basket making for over twenty years and have been working professionally and running courses in traditional basketry for the last 16 years. I feel ardently about protecting the knowledge of our traditional rural crafts that are so much a part of our heritage. My background is in arts and crafts. Having studied art, design and furniture making, worked in traditional timber framing and dabbled in stone masonry and stained glass, I then became hooked on basket making.
