Description
An immersive 4 hour leatherwork class where we will explore some hands-on basic skills to practice making your own beautiful items with leather. Skills we will explore: choosing, marking, cutting, refining, decorating/embossing, stitching, dyeing, and finishing leather using a range of bespoke tools peculiar to the heritage craft of leatherwork. Tools we'll use: craft knives, hole punches, stamps, awls, stitch-punch, stitch-groover, edge-beveller, strap cutter, rivet setter, stylus, stencils, and more. Possible items we will produce: - coasters/placemats - sew-on patches - wristbands - protective chest-pads/carving bibs - tool belt holster The workshop will take you through a step by step process of making your own chosen project as follows: - Selecting & cutting leather - Refining leather edges - Carving, marking, and embossing techniques - How to dye leather - Saddle stitching - Burnishing - Leather finishing These are the basic skills and techniques you will learn from your chosen project. These skills when put into practice are transferable to a multitude of projects. All materials and tools will be provided on the class, and you will take away a high quality hand-crafted item made to last a lifetime.
