Description
An immersive 4 hour leatherwork class where we will explore some hands-on basic skills to practice making your own beautiful items with leather. Skills we will explore: choosing, marking, cutting, refining, decorating/embossing, stitching, dyeing, and finishing leather using a range of bespoke tools peculiar to the heritage craft of leatherwork. Tools we'll use: craft knives, hole punches, stamps, awls, stitch-punch, stitch-groover, edge-beveller, strap cutter, rivet setter, stylus, stencils, and more. Possible items we will produce: - Coasters/placemats. - Sew-on patches. - Wristbands. - Protective chest-pads/carving bibs. - Tool belt holsters. - Journal covers. The workshop will take you through a step by step process of making your own chosen project as follows: - Selecting & cutting leather. - Refining leather edges. - Carving, marking, and embossing techniques. - How to dye leather. - Saddle stitching. - Burnishing. - Leather finishing. These are the basic skills and techniques you will learn from your chosen project. These skills when put into practice are transferable to a multitude of projects. All materials and tools will be provided on the class, and you will take away a high quality hand-crafted item made to last a lifetime.
