Jewellery Course – Introduction to Jewellery

X

Description

This 5 week beginners jewellery course, led by Sharon Justice, will introduce the workshop equipment, how to use it and lay a foundation of basic knowledge and skills in metal work What can you learn? Students will learn how to measure, saw, shape, texture, solder, file, clean and polish. What can you make? Students will make a simple band ring, plain or textured, as well as either a simple pendant or a pair of earrings which involve wire and links. What tools/equipment can you use? Metal jewellery making requires use of open flame, either from our specially fitted mouthblown torches or from handheld gas canisters. Students will be shown how to use basic hand tools including saws, pliers, files, hammers, as well as soldering equipment and mechanical polishers. What is the course structure? The first 2-3 weeks of the course will be used to make a band ring with demonstrations on how to use the equipment and the skills required. We will then spend time using wire to complete some links and findings (ear wires, links) which will be used to complete a second project, again demonstrations will be given. If booking a second block a ring with a simple setting will consolidate the techniques learned while adding the skill to set a cabochon stone. A second project that is student designed will also include a stone. Again, demonstrations and support will be given to complete these pieces What is the recommended level of experience? This course is ideal for those with no experience or who have maybe completed a short- one day course or have made in the past and feel they want to refresh their skills. What others have said about our Jewellery courses: “Have really enjoyed my time at Making Space, it’s a supportive and inclusive community” “We had an excellent instructor” “Just thankyou 🙂 lovely people in a lovely creative space …. it was a pleasure to experience :)” “A lovely environment to learn in, v supportive and has allowed me to gain in confidence”

What's included in the price?

If booking a second five weeks bezel wire, small findings, solder, saw blades, and other consumables will be available. Larger amounts of silver will need to be purchased by the student.
