Introduction to leatherwork - make a belt pouch

X

Description

Considerations: long periods spent sitting, indoor based. The course: Come and master some traditional leatherwork techniques, designing and creating your own beautiful belt pouch in the process! This course can be adapted to fit your individual pace, and those who progress rapidly can be given a small additional project to take on. You will learn: - How to understand different leathers. - How to cut out pieces using a pattern. - Safe use of knives. - The different methods of joining, including rivets and hand stitching. - How to stamp a design into leather. - How to add finishing touches including burnishing edges. Your tutor: Peter Smedley is a self taught jewellery maker and leather worker, with fifteen years of experience. "I really enjoy engaging with people, passing on knowledge and seeing the look on someone’s face when understanding dawns. I believe that the work I do should last for a long time, I don’t believe in replacement consumerism. Showing others how to make lasting, useful items, being able to pass on those skills, is something I wish to engage with. I have enjoyed problem solving as I go and getting to the point where, I believe, that I can produce attractive, functional, professional looking pieces, and show others how to do the same."
