Linocut print workshop - woodland wildflowers
Description
Considerations: indoors, seated. What to wear: Clothes you can get messy, aprons will be provided. What to bring: Just yourself and your enthusiasm! Start/finish times: 10am - 1pm. The course: As we bid farewell to winter, celebrate the beauty of spring abundance! Linocut printing is a traditional technique and artistic process that can be traced back as far as the 1800s, when it was used for creating wallpaper. Using delicate woodland flowers as inspiration, you will be guided in creating your own design, and shown how to carve it into a sheet of linoleum. This raised surface is then inked and pressed onto paper or fabric to create your unique print. You will leave with a two layer lino cut to use at home. Mindful and thoroughly absorbing, this is the ideal workshop to take some time out and explore your creative side! You will learn: - How a linocut print is produced. - How to create a woodland flower inspired print. - How to safely use a variety of tools. - Different methods of pressing. Your tutor: Caroline Nettleford spent over 25 years teaching creative arts to young people, but her printmaking journey began after leaving classroom nearly three years ago. When a family member and experienced printmaker introduced Caroline to the process, she was soon completely hooked and began spending hours every day practising and learning everything she could! Caroline now sells her prints at art trails and fairs and her work is also stocked by a range of local businesses. After many requests for workshops, she decided to branch out, and loves to share the joy of printmaking with people of all ages. "For me, printmaking gives me the opportunity to explore the world around me through print. I have a passion for portraying nature, in particular birds. My prints often depict my personal encounters with wildlife… I have found natural beauty can be found all around us, wherever we live, if we just take time to notice it. Lino printing in particular has become a real passion, carving away lino using hand tools to slowly bring my ideas to life is such a mindful time for me. I get completely lost in the moment! I roll on vibrant inks and squeeze them through the hand press, peel back the paper and reveal my image… pure magic!" Caroline will be bringing along a range of her work for inspiration, and to purchase.
