Introduction to Gilding

X

Description

Gilding is an ancient, beautiful and relaxing craft. It enables you to coat almost any item with a thin layer of pure goldleaf, or other metals of your choosing. Is it glass, wood, photographs, art or furniture you want to gild? Whatever you are interested in, this course is for you. What does it cover? You will be given a basic introduction to the traditional gilding process. Whether you have a professional interest in gilding, would just like to renovate some personal items or maybe just fancy developing a new skill, this gilding experience will provide fun and stimulation, whatever your age, background and interests. On this course, you will learn the processes that dates back to over 4,500 years ago with the Egyptians and discover why gilding has a long and interesting history. What are the learning / outcome objectives? It doesn’t matter what your or background is, this course is tailored to fully suit your personal needs. All students are provided a selection of exercises to help learn and understand the basic principles of gilding. These include the three areas of oil gilding, water gilding and glass gilding. Two days really is an ideal introduction to the mystery and fascination of gilding. We will look at surface preparation, correct handling the gold, patination processes on silver and copper and more. You may bring along your own items to gild within the class or discuss any projects with Richard - although finishing the item in the two days cannot be guaranteed.
