About the Course

An opportunity to see medicinal plants that grow and live in London and discover how they can be used to help our health and well-being. On our first walk we will meet at the Chelsea Physic Garden, the oldest botanical garden in London, where we will see some of the plants that provide us with food, including some of those now referred to as 'superfoods'.
On our second walk we will meet at Kensington Palace Gardens. Please wear weather appropriate clothing and practical walking shoes. (Entrance fees are included in the course fees)

Who is this course for
This is open to anyone with an interest in Herbal Medicine. Whether you have attended any of the Herbalism courses at the Mary Ward Centre or not. It is an opportunity to meet and identify some of the plants used today in Herbal Medicine.

What does this course cover
We will vist two Herb Gardens, the first meeting is at the Chelsea Physic Garden, the oldest botanical garden in London.The price includes entry to the Chelsea Physic Garden which is open until 6pm on Sundays so you are welcome to take advantage of your ticket and stay after the meeting to enjoy the garden and facilities. The second walk is at Kensington Gardens.
During our visits, we will look at identification of plants used today in Western Herbal Medicine, discuss some of their properties and how they can be used safely. Paying particular attention to plants that provide us with food including those now classified as 'superfoods' such as Quinoa.
By the end of the course, students will be able to describe how to make a herbal infusion, naming the parts of the plant used. Describe how to make a decoction and identify 3 medicinal plants and one associated action for each.
