Gemstone Carving Masterclass Weekend with Sanni Falkenberg Have you ever wanted to learn how to carve gemstones into your very own creations? This is a unique and rare opportunity to work with an award winning gem carver. You will have a piece of gemstone material to design and work on during the 2 days. Sanni will cover most things you need to know about how to get started yourself and you will have time to try out your new knowledge and skills under her supervision. All tools and materials will be provided with the option of buying the kit from Sanni to carry on carving from your home or studio. What is covered? Introduction to gemstone carving Overview of tools, materials, PPE and safety Learning how to set up your carving studio at home or workshop Selection of gemstone, guidance on choosing the right stone for your project, learning to see what kind of stones to avoid & why Design concepts: exploring design principles &sketching your idea Basic carving techniques: hands on instruction on shaping & roughing out your design Tool usage: Demonstrations on using diamond tools and polishing tools Hands on practice: carving, shaping, sanding and polishing Troubleshooting: the Do’s and Don’t’s, common challenges and FAQ’s Q&A session What is included? · Gemstone material + loan of all the tools you will need for the day. · Handout to take home and use for future designing · Refreshments of tea, coffee and biscuits. She offers one to one tuition and specialist workshop classes from her purpose built fully equipt studio Rachel Hearne Jewellery School in Lancaster UK. She was lecturer of Jewellery and Silversmithing Nelson and Colne College, Cumbria Adult Learning and Lancashire Adult Learning teaching beginning, intermediate and advanced students for over 14 years giving her experience in teaching all abilites and ages.

"My one to one class with Rachel was just what I wanted and needed. I have done a course with Rachel before. Rachel has a nice way about her which makes you comfortable with your ability, always encouraging and helping you achieve your goals . This one to one was an extension of the course I did at Halton Mill. The things I had picked up in those classes really helped me. I am pretty much a beginner and I am making bracelets, earrings and rings. My next project will be an inlaid ring. One of best things with one to one tutoring, is you pick up so much. It went so fast, which was a shame because I was enjoying it so much , hopefully I will be booking another soon.?"
