About the Course
Earth pigments are things like ochres - naturally coloured clays and rocks that have been used for colour since prehistoric times. They're strong, lightfast and permanent, and hugely versatile in how they can be used. As well as looking into the background of how the pigments have been used, this is a hands-on course. we'll use earth pigments as our prehistoric ancestors did, and then we'll look at the many ways we can use them in our own homes and lives.
This is one of my 'Ancestral Skills' workshops, and I'll update my CraftCourses page when new dates are set. In the meantime, you're welcome to contact to arrange a workshop or to register your interest for future workshops. I'm based in the East Midlands but am happy to travel to run this workshop elsewhere.
I like a maximum of 10 of students for workshops, for either 1, 2 or 3 days. Any level of ability is fine, with no previous knowledge required - I'm sure everyone will learn some good things!
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
The price includes materials. There are some basic things which you can bring and you'll get a list of these when you book on to the course.
Helen was a good and enthusiastic teacher. We learned about pigments, their use in history and possibilities for use today. Then we tried some cave painting (harder than you think) and then some time experimenting with our own ideas.
