Drawing Studio with Clare Basel at Cambridge Makers

Description

This course runs for 10 Thursday mornings. “I have learned that what I have not drawn, I have never really seen, and that when I start drawing an ordinary thing, I realise how extraordinary it is, sheer miracle.” – Frederick Franck This ten-week drawing class will be studio based and allow you to take a deeper dive into your drawing practice. You will explore mark making with charcoal, graphite, and inks.We will discover together how artists use drawing to develop their thinking and build on their ideas. Drawing improves through honing hand-eye co-ordination and gaining understanding of how you feel about what you see and then discovering ways to make marks to express these feelings and ideas. You will learn about the different qualities different materials have to offer and how to make tools to broaden your mark making vocabulary. The course will aim to provide you with a better understanding of line, tone, value, composition, and form and how these can enrich your compositions. In the studio we will create still lives and you will be encouraged to bring objects that hold meaning to you to include in your compositions. As we are fortunate to be working in a studio surrounded by beautiful countryside and the village of Linton; weather permitting, we may wander out of the classroom for some observational drawing exercises. Drawing represents our thoughts; we express our ideas and emotions through the marks we make. We each have a unique way of seeing the world and our drawing, much like our handwriting demonstrates our individuality. You will be able to share your discoveries in a relaxed friendly environment. The Drawing Studio course is aimed to help grow your confidence and you’re your enjoyment of drawing. “Drawing is a way to show the world what you see in your head”
