Description
Start a complete beginner and leave as a confident intermediate book binder. Explore traditional and contemporary designs. Learn a wide variety of techniques from classic hard bound canvas books to beautiful boxes and more. Use your creations as sketchbooks, notebooks, journals, scrapbooks, photobooks ... the possibilities are endless! You will complete 4-8 projects depending on the scale and complexity of the pieces you decide to create. I only take individual bookings which means I can design the course around your interests and needs ... a new hobby, a new business, skills to restore books or just some time for you. This skills covered can include: - Understanding materials & tools - Folding & stitching paper & signatures (the sections inside a book) - Binding signatures together - Canvas bound books - Leather / leatherette bound books - Decorative bindings & stitches - Single & multi signature books - Japanese binding - Perfect binding - Canvas boxes - Structural books - Alternative & eco materials for covers, end papers & leaves Other skills can be covered to meet our interests and needs, please enquire before booking. All live sessions are delivered in English and will be subject to time zone adjustments and availability. Dates listed are based on UK time. This workshop is a guaranteed one to one session so that I can tailor the workshop to your interests and needs as an individual. You can achieve so much this way. Develop skills to start a new business, take up a new hobby or craft for the joy of it … I can ensure the day progresses the way you want it to. What you will need
As this is the international option you will need to supply the following materials and tools yourself. Please message if you want to discuss the list. - Book Cloth / Book Canvas / Buckram Fabric - Leather, leatherette or fabric that doesn't fray - Grey Board (at least 1.5mm thick) - Large Brush - Paper - Decorative or patterned paper - Awl (or strong needle / hat pin) - Sewing Needles of various sizes - Thread (waxed thread, embroidery thread or very strong sewing thread) - Thimble (optional) - Bone Folder (optional) - Metal Ruler - Cutting Mat - Craft Knife - Book Press (or a pile of heavy books!) - PVA glue - Water - Scrap paper (not newspaper) - Scissors You also need a device with a large enough screen to view the demonstrations, wifi and the ability to play sound.

Where it all began … I first learnt to crochet as a child and spent hours and hours making, sewing, knitting and learning every new technique possible in art, craft and design. After a degree in Graphics and with 16 years experience teaching Textiles, Graphics, Art & Design and Design & Technology I strongly believe in developing my own practice to be the best tutor I can be. I am continually inspired by my students of all ages so it's definitely a 2 way street!

FAQs
All your materials, endless tea and coffee and camping accommodation for 'One to One' bookings (this may also be available for other bookings subject to availability - please enquire).
I only take individual bookings so there will only be the people you choose to book for! This means I can make sure the workshop is exactly what individuals and groups want and everyone gets more out of it.
I normally start at 0930hrs but as I only take individual bookings I can be flexible with timings (subject to availability) to suit you.
No need to bring anything with you for your course or workshop unless you want to bring examples or inspiration ... but there are plenty of both here in the studio (surrounded by the beautiful Shropshire Hills) so you can just bring your lovely self!
There is a cute retro caravan that sleeps 1-2 people available onsite (The Old School Campsite) free of charge for 'one to one' bookings (subject to availability). There are also glamping bell tents in the summer and camping pitches available onsite. If camping isn't for you (!) there are lovely holiday cottages at 'Shelve Holidays' or a luxury cabin at 'Heather and Stone'.
