Beekeeper For A Day (full day experience)

X

Description

Think of this full day experience as an opportunity to try-before-you-buy, or to tick off an activity from your bucket list! It can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and an opportunity to achieve being a beekeeper when circumstances would otherwise prevent it. This action-packed full-day event is ideal as a gift experience for a birthday, Christmas or Mothers' and Fathers' Day. It is suitable as the first step for wana-bee beekeepers or for anyone inspired by recent TV programmes and would like to learn more about beekeeping and honey. You will discover why we keep bees and a bit about the lifecycle of honeybees before seeing them closeup under a microscope and learning about the inner workings of beehives. We will then kit up in protective clothing and amble out to the apiary where you will get some hands-on experience of handling the bees under supervision. We will inspect contrasting bee hives, including a WBC hive, national long hive and Warre hive and learn about assessing colonies, decision making and the manipulations required to manage the colonies. Indoors, you will learn more about hive products and have an opportunity to make not only a rolled candle but poured and dipped candles too. Depending on the time of year, you will also experience the process of extracting honey and producing cut comb honey. To round off the experience you will get to do a blind honey-tasting and learn about locally produced artisan honey,
