Bee curious with Dr Daf The Bee Doctor - half-day experience
Description
Have you ever wondered what goes on inside a beehive? This is the opportunity you have been waiting for! This action-packed, half-day taster event is suitable for adults and for families with children of all ages, and is ideal as a gift experience for a birthday, Christmas or Mothers' and Fathers' Day. It is suitable as the first step for wanna-bee beekeepers or for anyone inspired by recent TV programmes, and would like to learn more about beekeeping and honey. You will discover why we keep bees and a bit about the lifecycle of honeybees before seeing them close up under a microscope and learning about the inner workings of beehives. We will then kit up in protective clothing and amble out to the apiary where you will get some hands-on experience of handling the bees under supervision. To round off the experience you will get to do a blind honey-tasting and learn a bit about locally produced honey and then make a rolled bees-wax candle. In the event of unsuitable weather, and for young children below the age of 9 yrs, we may provide an indoor glass-fronted observation hive. This is an all weather event as we have beehives under cover. Please get in touch via the 'message the tutor' button with any queries. We are also happy to consider providing a bespoke experience for larger groups and for families with young children below the age of 9 years. Please enquire!
