Woodwork Joints Skills - Cambridgeshire

X

Description

The ethos is the joy of hand tool woodworking and the enjoyment gained from developing those skills. Your materials and tools at the bench then follow good process. Hand tool woodworking offers enjoyment and a great form of relaxation, in addition to the more obvious practical benefits. On the two-day woodwork joints course you will make a frame consisting of 4 different joints. We will look at foundation woodwork skills, accurate marking, tool selection and hand-tool skills. Working on four different joints to develop your skills and knowledge, the frame can then be displayed near your home woodwork area or converted to a photo frame. However, you work at your own speed and the days are more about the learning and enjoying the process, less about the frame. The maximum number of students on this course is 4 as we design the course to ensure you get a good level of tuition and advice. Bill is fully qualified from City & Guilds through to Masters Degree. This is a beginner/intermediate course beginners can attend. However, if you feel you want to cover some basics first, I also do an Introduction to Woodwork course, which prepares beginners for this course and ensures you get the most from it. You may not be a beginner and you may have some experience of hand tool woodworking, you wish to improve your skills and expand your repertoire of joints. This course will help you push your making skills forward. Please contact Bill via the 'message the tutor' button if you have any questions at all.

Maker

Welcome to 'Learn-Make-Restore'. I am an experienced cabinet maker, furniture maker and furniture restorer. I am qualified from various City & Guilds through to a Masters Degree in the Conservation of Historic Objects . I have a passion for traditional crafts and teach various aspects of making & restoring. I have also written for a number of woodwork magazines, for example, 'Quercus', 'Woodland Heritage Journal' and 'Furniture & Cabinetmaking'. You will also find my regular workshop posts on Instagram. I am a Brand Ambassador for a few woodwork related companies and this provides great opportunities for course attendees to try new tools and materials. I teach from my workshops near Ely, Cambridgeshire and will also be opening a new site in North Wales in late 2025. I believe strongly that our health & quality of life is enhanced by working practically, being creative, making and learning new skills. We can all be highly creative and practical when we get the opportunity. At a time in society, when consumerism has taken hold, we throw too many things away and do not always appreciate materials or nature. Both my workshops are chosen for their location, surrounded by nature and inspiration. We must make better and restore more. We need more relaxing workbench time and less screen time.
