Spend a creative day by the sea as you weave your own willow moongazing or sitting hare sculpture with expert maker Jo Sadler. Set at Sally Tully Ceramics – The Art Loft, located in The Old Stores, Chyandour Place in Penzance. You’ll be provided with all materials, including a sturdy metal frame to support your sculpture. Light refreshments will be available throughout the day, as well as a delicious lunch. It’s a joyful, hands-on experience that celebrates traditional craft in a relaxed and artistic Cornish setting, perfect for both beginners and returning weavers. Dietary requirements & allergies: When booking, please notify us of any dietary requirements or allergies you may have. Sally will prepare all food and cater for specific allergies and intolerances. Important notes: - This course is not suitable for those under 16 years of age. - Please be aware that willow bark can cause serious allergic reactions in individuals sensitive to aspirin or those taking certain medications (e.g., blood thinners, beta-blockers, or acetaminophen/Tylenol). Schedule: Arrival: from 9:15am, where you'll be welcomed with a hot drink and a light homemade treat. Workshop start: 9:30am. Lunch break: a 45-minute pause to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch prepared by Chef Sally. Workshop end: Approximately 4:30pm.

I’m Jo, a Somerset-based willow sculptor with a passion for wildlife, natural forms, and the mindful, grounding process of working with willow. My journey into willow weaving began unexpectedly in 2014, during a visit to the Coates English Willow Centre. What started as a curiosity soon became a calling, I signed up for a sculpture class and never looked back. Since then, I've dedicated myself to this ancient craft, creating large-scale animal sculptures and teaching others how to shape their own with structure, movement, and soul. From rutting stags at Abbotsbury to leaping deer on the A303, my work celebrates the beauty of the natural world and the tactile joy of traditional craftsmanship. My workshops are friendly, hands-on, and structured to support all abilities, whether you’re a complete beginner or an eager returner. I believe that everyone can create something they’re proud of with the right guidance, a bundle of willow, and a bit of patience. Come along and lose yourself in a day of sculpting, laughter, and creativity, you’ll leave with something truly unique (and probably a bit of willow in your hair!).
