About the Course
This course is perfect for beginners, improvers and advanced students to learn about the craft whilst upcycling their own chair or stool. You will acquire new skills and knowledge about upholstery and will be given advice and instruction on the best way to achieve professional results.
Classes which started in April 2018 are full and a waiting list is being taken, so that as soon as places become available I can contact you. I would be delighted to answer any questions or queries. More courses will commence in September 2018 with provisional dates currently listed.
During the course each seat will be stripped, re-webbed and stuffed with traditional or modern materials, covered with calico, completed with your top cover fabric and trimmed. More advanced techniques can include lashing springs, buttoning, or working with a sprung unit seat base.
Demonstrations will include how to stretch and fix webbing in place using a webbing stretcher; first and second stuffing of the seat and specialist upholstery work such as stitching using double ended and curved needles and deep buttoning.
For beginners suitable furniture pieces include a drop in seat or stuff over dining chair, or a stool. For improvers projects might include a sprung dining chair, or a small armchair.
Your tutor will have a supply of upholstery materials that you can purchase.
Group sizes are kept intentionally small with a maximum of eight.
I will retain your details (name/phone/email) if you request information about my upholstery courses in order to contact you about future classes and workshops. This information will be used once and then deleted, unless you respond asking for further or future communication from me.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
