Description
We will start off by mixing fibres and colours on a blending board, drum carder or hand carders to make a crazy batt. We will spin thick and thin singles, and then explore thread plying, making spiral yarns, as well as coils and knots. We will spin tail end yarns, and try our hand at supercoil yarns. What to bring: - Lunch - A spinning wheel with as large an orifice as you have or a drop spindle - A lazy kate or other equipment for plying - A drum carder, blending board or hand cards - Fibres from your stash: a selection of merino and other wools, carded and uncarded (but washed), some Wednesleydale or mohair locks, silk fibres, cotton, sparkles, try and bring a range of colours - Some thin commercial yarn for thread plying, ideally on a cone, can be smooth or fancy - I will bring a box of extra fibres and yarns for people to us
