Screen-Printed Textiles Layering Colour and Pattern Weekend

X

Description

Join us for a 2-day workshop where you will have the opportunity to explore the possibilities of screen-printing and mark-making on to cloth using procion dyes. This weekend workshop is suitable for all abilities and those with artistic experience who wish to expand their existing skill set or embed existing learning into their creative practice. Through the exploration and experimentation of a range of processes you will develop an understanding of layering and colour mixing, pattern, surface texture and design. You will create a series of samples and fabric pieces that will form a reference library for future experiments and create starting points for your personal creative development. Using Procion dyes as your medium will allow you to explore building up surface texture, pattern and layering colour through printing with a variety of techniques, including a range of temporary resists and a silk screen, onto fabric. Within these processes you will look at the design elements of composition, texture, scale, shape and colour. This will be supported by discussion that will help you develop your ideas and how to apply them to your own creative designs.

The course is suitable for all abilities and those who want to embed the learning within their own creative practice. All that is needed is a sense of curiosity and a willingness to experiment in a relaxed and supportive environment. Those new to the process will gain an understanding of a range of techniques which they can develop further within textiles or utilise in other artistic practices. You will all come away with a set of samples that can be used as a reference library for future experiments and the knowledge of how to carry on creating with these techniques. It has been designed so that all the processes learnt are accessible and achievable in a home environment or a studio with limited equipment. You will be staying in our stylish accommodation on site. The Barrel Store accommodation will be reserved for students for the whole weekend and you will each have a room of your own. 2-night stay includes Friday & Saturday. An additional 1-night stay on Sunday is an optional extra. Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty or bring an apron You are welcome to bring a lidded bottle of water with you but we kindly ask that you do not bring food into the studio.

Unfortunately, we do not have our own designated car park, however there are plenty around Cirencester. The nearest short stay car park is The Brewery Car Park which is approximately 2 minutes away and is a council run pay and display. This car park has several disabled parking spaces too. Sheep Street Car Park is a longer stay car park 3 minutes away, it is a cashless car park facilitated by Pay by Phone. Full details of all car parks and pricing can be found on Cotswold District Council Website.

We pride ourselves on smaller class sizes, so you get plenty of help from the tutors. Maximum 8-10 students per class.

Of course, and for some classes we may ask you to do this. Please don’t worry, if this is the case it will be clearly shown on the booking pages and in your confirmation emails.

No, we ask that students either bring their own or wear clothes they are happy to get messy in.

You are welcome to bring a lidded bottle of water with you but we kindly ask that you do not bring food or drinks into the studio.
