Pottery throwing course in the South Downs National Park 1 day for two people

Description

This is a Pottery Throwing Course for 2 people The pottery is small but provides a great opportunity for individual tuition This could include a mixture of throwing on the wheel and hand-building, with time to concentrate on one or the other. A variety of techniques can be explored to decorate your work. Stoneware clay is used and fired in an electric kiln with a choice of glazes. In a full day class you will be throwing before lunch, and decorating tiles or a dish in the afternoon. Plenty to explore, so a great opportunity to combine a pottery course with other interests. Bed and breakfast available in the area.

"What an amazing day. Spent the morning with Rowena learning about throwing pots and hands on pot turning for my wife and I. The afternoon was spent creating a dish with rolled clay and decorating it. I would highly recommend this as either an experience to try something different, a way to spend more time with a loved one, or as a taster for a new hobby. Rowena was a great teacher also which made the day all the more interesting. We even get to keep our pots once they have dried out and been glazed. "

"Just spent a marvellous day yesterday, with my daughter, at Paddock Art Studios, being taught by Rowena. Although we have different levels of pottery experience, we both walked away thinking that we had learned a great deal. Rowena has years of experience and is a patient, kind teacher, with a great sense of humour. She is equally good at teaching beginner to intermediate and advanced. Thoroughly recommend!"

"My husband booked this for me as a Birthday gift which had to be rescheduled due to my work commitments and Rowena was very accommodating to ensure we were able to attend. We had a fantastic day with Rowena who explained every step and was on hand the whole time to guide us to the point where we both threw a few bowls in the morning and we chose to continue on the potters wheel in the afternoon session also where we made small pourers and small vases. We chose our glaze finish from examples in the workshop and will collect them later. The course exceeded our expectations, whether an absolute beginner like my husband or a novice like myself Rowena was able to teach comprehensively each stage of the throw , positioning of hands and method though each stage. We were delighted with our end results and can’t thank Rowena enough. I would highly recommend this course with Rowena who will definitely not disappoint anyone who attends . We saw other students pieces which had been fired also and the quality was exceptional. I purchased a few pieces of Rowena pottery including a coffee mug for my daughter in law which she loved. Thank you Rowena for a wonderful experience "

"We had a wonderful day at Rowena's studio. I booked a one day course for myself and my husband. It was so nice to have such one to one training, as it really gave us the opportunity to get better at our technique. We managed to make quite a few bowls and vases. We can't wait to pick them up once they've been fired and glazed. Would definitely do it again and 100% if you want to have a go at throwing a pot! "

"My sister and I had a wonderful day with Rowena. She is a brilliant teacher, patient, precise and with a good sense of humour. We never felt lost in the process, which must be very easy. We felt supported at each stage. As we progressed she gave us space to remember what to do. We got to throw several bowls and could see our improvement. We then had access to lots of options to decorate a mould made bowl and again she was sensitive in giving more or less instruction as needed. I do not hesitate in recommending this course to anyone. You will have a fantastic satisfying time, learn lots and have beautiful items to collect once they are fired."

"My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our 2 day course with Rowena. Rowena is an excellent teacher, explaining and demonstrating each technique before we tried it for ourselves, then staying close at hand to help as needed - but without taking over. Rowena is very encouraging and motivating and explains the rationale behind each step as you go along. We felt a real sense of achievement at how far we progressed over the course to the 2 days. We would wholeheartedly recommend this course."

"This 2 person pottery session is fantastic. We spent the morning throwing our pots. We had four attempts at them on the wheel. It's well worth doing a one to one/ two person session because you pick so much more up than woth a large groul. Rowena is a brilliant teacher. There's always the concern with these courses that it might take a 'create what you feel' approach but Rowena explained the technique perfectly and we could see improvement in our pots as we went along. We really felt we had learnt something. In the afternoon we made a dish in a mould which gave us the opportunity to paint and decorate and get a bit creative. Rowena is going to glaze our pots and we'll pick them up in a month or so. This course is definitely well worth it, can't recommend it enough if you are looking at trying some pottery."
