What you will need

Bring glasses if you need for close up work What you’ll need to make your wreath For your Wreath making materials you have 2 options 1. buy a wreath kit that includes everything 2. buy, forage and use items you have at home or in your garden You'll also need secateurs or sharp scissors, a flat table to work on protected with paper, cardboard or a cutting mat) & a hook to hang your wreath up when made Your local florist or garden centre may well sell kits - give them a call! Buy, forage or use your own: Places to buy are florists, garden centres or online shops such as Ebay have a huge selection of floristry supplies suitable for this wreath. The first local garden centre we visited and first florist we called had almost everything in stock for great prices! You'll need: 1. Wreath ring prep: • Wire wreath ring approx 25cm diameter £1.50-£2 • Spagnum moss (700g - best from florists as they will sell smaller amounts) £2-£5 • Binding wire (often called Reel Wire) or a reel of natural twine (string for florists) to wrap round the moss and foliage to hold it in place on the ring. • Approx. 20 inch length of twine or strong raffia to make the hanging loop at the end • Stub wires or craft wires (approx 18 gauge/1mm - 20cm or less long) to attach the decorations at the end - needs to be twistable but also stiff enough to poke through the moss and foliage to the back of the wreath. How many you need depends on how many decorations you are adding - see section 4 below, we used about 12. 75p-£2.50 2. Base foliage: • Bundle of Christmas Tree foliage like spruce, fir, any conifer (cedars, cypresses, junipers, kauris, larches, pines, redwoods & yews are all conifers) - you may have one in your garden. (£2.50-5 at local florist or garden centre or online) • You don't have to use conifers for your base, you can use any hardy winter plant that’s fairly strong and dense like conifer. 3. Decorative foliage: We used: • Asparagus Fern, • Senecio, • Skimmia, • Fluffy Grasses, • Lavender, • Twigs You can also use any of these: • Ivy (wear gloves if you have an allergy, some people do), • Holly, • Bay, • Eucalyptus, • Mistletoe • Any hardy green plants, berries and flowers. See what you have in your garden or in nearby parks and countryside, or at your local garden centre or florist. 4. Decorations: We used foraged items: o teasels, o pine cones o old mans beard, • Dried fruits which we bought - Ebay & our local garden centre had a good selection - or you can dry out your own in the oven (look online for tutorials): o orange slices o dried chillies. You can also add • baubles, • glittery artificial plants (we found lovely ones in local garden centre) • other dried items like cinnamon and apple slices, bows, fairy lights, springs of berries (real or artificial). FORAGING NOTE: If you are foraging in the countryside, only take one or two heads/springs per plant. leave the rest for nature and others to enjoy! You'll need a hook on your door or wall at home to hang your wreath by it's grass hanging loop which you'll add in class. We recommend Command Hooks (Robert Dyas/Amazon) as they can be removed after Christmas without damaging the door (they don't work on wallpapered walls though). Your wreath will weigh approx 1kg so choose a hook like this white plastic one or this metal one that carries this weight Happy Wild Wreath Making!!
